    TITLE: FRONT OF HOUSE

     STATUS: PART-TIME NON-EXEMPT    

    REPORTS TO: GENERAL MANAGER                  

    LOCATION: SAN DIEGO, CA (POINT LOMA LOCATION) 

    THE BIG PICTURE

    The Front of House (FOH) staff member reports to the General Manager and works a variety of guest-facing positions within the Modern Times Tasting Room. The FOH staff member will maintain a watchful eye on all things related to hospitality and daily service operations including greeting guests, serving beer, taking orders at the POS and on the fly, running & bussing drinks, attending to the Mini-Mart, maintaining the cleanliness of all facilities, and screening guests as needed to maintain a safe but fun environment on the property. As one of the important and often first faces of our company for many of our fans, it is their job to represent Modern Times & our products in the best, most informative way possible while providing an outstanding service experience for every person who walks into our door. Candidates must share Modern Times' commitments to quality, safety, business ethics, and continuous innovation.

    FOH staff will be a part of the overall tip pool within the Modern Times Tasting Room.

    THE EVERYDAY VIEW

    •  Greet all guests entering the facility promptly and courteously and provide a brief introduction to the premises & menus
    •  Be an expert in all things Modern Times history and heritage, history of brewing and brewing process, the craft coffee/beer industry, beer and coffee styles, and ingredients, and have basic sales knowledge
    •  Anticipate and respond to guest needs and recommend menu items based on their described tastes
    •  Follow all established Modern Times' steps of service
    •  Share passion for all things retail, specialty coffee, craft beer, and plant-based cuisine related, as well as the ability to taste, describe and evaluate qualities and characteristics
    •  Have an overall awareness of the property and take initiative and ownership to ensure all aspects of it are clean, presentable, and inviting
    •  Perform opening/running/closing duties according to Modern Times policy and procedure including but not limited to basic to deep cleaning tasks, and daily and weekly side work duties
    • Execute transactions, exchanges, and refunds through our POS systems including Toast and Shopify
    • Reinforce and provide accountability for all cash handling processes including credit card, and gift certificate transactions
    •  Handle all phone calls including, but not limited to, to-go orders, directions, guest complaints, and event inquiries
    •  Greet and assist consumers, management, and accounts as a representative of the brand at all times, maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor that is friendly, enthusiastic, energetic, and outgoing
    • Handle multiple tasks at one time efficiently and with an upbeat, friendly attitude in a fast-paced environment - Safely and professionally handle guest experience issues
    • Adhere to and enforce all applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations
    •  Maintain all Modern Times Safety and Sanitation Standards
    • Be a team player and able to interact and effectively communicate in person & digitally with all levels within the organization

    MINI MART

    • Ensure merchandise is organized, stocked, tracked, reported, sold, and inventoried accurately, both in the stock room and store
    •  Responsible for daily cleaning, organizing, stocking, and selling of retail items, beer, and coffee-to-go product
    •  Interface with bottle club members, ensuring the accuracy of online presale order pickups, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the optimal guest experience
    • Be an expert on all special release, seasonal, and core brands
    • Maintain pickup appointment list via reservation management software
    • Maintain appropriate inventory display and quantities throughout the day, as well as quarterly reporting

    BEVERAGE SERVICE

    • Anticipate and respond to guest needs in a timely and upbeat manner
    • Receive and enter guest orders at the bar and/or tableside while checking in on guests
    • Effectively, calmly, and professionally communicate with the staff and public in a variety of situations, including interacting with all guests in a positive and safety-minded manner
    • Monitor responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages for all guests and ensure guest and staff safety at all times
    • Regularly monitor the quality of beverages being served and know what appropriate action to take to correct quality inconsistencies
    • Be an expert on quality-oriented draft service including common tasting note vocabulary, proper pour, beer clean glassware, and signifiers of quality issues
    •  Deliver items to the appropriate guest(s) in a timely manner
    • Clear and reset tables promptly and properly as needed
    •  Clean table tops, seating, floor, and restrooms periodically
    •  Ensure that service stations are well stocked before and after shift change
    • Move and re-stock kegs, reporting inventory and line changes at the end of each shift
    • Thorough understanding of draft maintenance including crowler machine upkeep and gas tank replacement

    DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application
    • Able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment reference, and background check
    • LEAD Certification for responsible alcohol service required
    •  ServSafe or applicable State or County Food Handler Certification required
    • Previous cash handling experience required - Working knowledge of high-volume operations and safe, responsible alcohol service required
    • Previous professional service industry and/or front of house hospitality experience preferred - Knowledge of specialty coffee & craft beer and the brewing process preferred
    • Comprehensive knowledge of Modern Times products, history, and heritage preferred
    • Strong interpersonal skills and a love for meeting and interacting with people
    • Thorough attention to detail and desire to take initiative
    •  Must adhere to company's policies and procedures
    •  Desire to work in a fast-paced, growing company
    • Able to comply with and enforce all health, safety, and personal hygiene policies and standards

    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Nights, evenings, weekends, holiday availability required
    • Part-time roles must be available 15-20 hours per week
    • Able to stand, walk, and be on your feet for prolonged periods
    • Able to read and follow written English instructions
    • Able to regularly twist, turn, kneel, climb, stoop, bend, crawl, lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 55 pounds using appropriate techniques and tools
    • Able to both work and thrive in a high-stress environment that has a moderate noise level
    • Able to safely navigate the tasting room, food prep areas, and production facilities, including crowded spaces
    • Able to maneuver packages of any weight above 75 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance
    • Able to move 165-pounds, using appropriate techniques and tools
    • Able to work in a factory/production environment that may be loud, slick, humid, cold, and hot
    • Able to work in indoor and outdoor environments with moderate noise and occasionally slippery floors
    •  Able to comply with and enforce all health, safety, and personal hygiene policies and standards
