    ABOUT MODERN CONTROLS 

    Founded in 1988, ModernControls is a rapidly growing Building Automation, Energy Efficiency, and HVAC Services Provider for commercial facilities across Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.  With over 150 employees and a fleet of 100+ service vehicles, our team of experts install, maintain, and design Building Automation and HVAC systems to help facility managers simultaneously control critical building environments and energy-related operating costs.  

    SUMMARY  

    The VP of HR is an executive leadership position within the organization. A successful candidate must be detail-oriented and highly communicative with superb administration skills to join our growing team. The VP of HR will handle all written and verbal employee queries with the utmost confidentiality. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to, entering employee data for onboarding, payroll, status changes, managing terminations, creating, or editing HR documents and/or policies, leading the recruitment process, organizing training sessions and events, updating company policies, and ensuring they comply with labor laws, CBA's, and OSHA regulations. 

    To be a successful VP of HR, you should have sound knowledge of labor laws, Collective bargaining Agreements, and OSHA regulations and be willing to regularly revise company policies to comply with them. You must be able to deal with a variety of personalities and keep calm in tense situations. A top HR Executive should be approachable, fair, and have good multitasking abilities. You should also be willing to attend workshops and training sessions wherever possible. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Help maintain a positive workplace environment by displaying the company culture in everyday actions 
    • Motivate employees to balance safety, quality, productivity, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas 
    • Be the first point of contact for employees on any HR related issue 
    • Prepare & amend HR documents as needed, i.e., employment contracts, job descriptions, recruiting job postings, etc.  
    • Performance Coaching & Management 
    • Manage Employee Reviews 
    • Manage Employee Training Programs  
    • Manage Employee Learning & Development 
    • Manage & administer all employee benefits packages including Medical, Dental, 401(k), Cobra, etc.  
    • Promote a team environment, lead teambuilding sessions 
    • Discipline management & documentation  
    • Department of Labor & ERISSA compliance  
    • Management training on compliance 
    • Union labor relations guidance, eventually lead labor relations efforts, sit on local/national Union negotiating committees & fund committees 
    • Full understanding and be able to communicate the specifications of all Union Agreements 
    • Create & maintain HR policies & procedures that legally comply with government standards 
    • Oversee the formation & maintenance of employee records
    • Oversee weekly payroll processing & compliance
    • Provide direct leadership to (1) payroll administrator
    • Develop and oversee the company's risk and safety program to comply with insurance & OSHA standards
    • Hire and provide direct leadership to (1) safety manager 
    • Oversee the company's “first impressions” with both internal and external visitors
    • Provide direct leadership to (1) Receptionist/Clerk  
    • Recruiting & onboarding functional leader 
    • Utilize profiling tools to aid candidate selection process 
    • Freedom to utilize outside recruiting resources or hire to manage it internally 
    • Take the lead on the company's relationships with Technical High Schools and Technical colleges and manage our overall internship program

    DIRECT SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

     (1) Payroll Administrator, (1) Safety Manager, (1) Receptionist/HR Clerk, (1) potential recruiter.  

    REPORTS TO 

    Executive Vice President reporting directly to ownership 

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    Peer member of the 6-person Executive Leadership Team following the EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) business model. Required to attend and contribute in weekly 90-minute leadership team meetings and quarterly planning sessions. This is a team of highly motivated, highly energetic, and highly candid individuals.   

    REQUIREMENTS 

    This is a full-time, 40+ hour job that requires an in-person presence at minimum Monday to Thursday 9am – 3pm, however we can be flexible with “Work-From-Home” on an Ad-hoc basis.  Limited regional travel may be necessary within 150 miles of Wilmington, DE as our employees work at jobsites throughout Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Eastern Pennsylvania.  

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, & SKILLS: 

    • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, psychology, or similar field 
    • SHRM certification preferred 
    • Strong understanding of HR and labor laws 
    • 10+ years in Human Resource Leadership and Labor relations in a 200+ employee organization 
    • Experience within union labor environment preferred 
    • Highly competent with Microsoft Office and knowledge of various HR software systems using mass imports/exports
