VP OF ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING
JOB DESCRIPTION
MolQ Entertainment is an American entertainment and technology company launching a global streaming video-on-demand platform. MolQ Films will feature independent films, documentaries and series from around the globe, including award winning films from Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, Venice, Sundance, SXSW, Telluride, Tribeca and others, along with the best of independent cinema and Hollywood classics, and original films produced by MolQ Studios.
OVERVIEW
The VP, Original Programming role is responsible for the identification and creative development of MolQ original programming. Working closely with filmmakers, producers, and film festivals, the VP brings in new projects that align with the MolQ brand and helps oversees their development through production and strategizing around any festivals and awards (where applicable). This role will be supervised by the Head of Films and the candidate will be expected to have deep and broad relationships in the independent film community, both in the narrative and documentary areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and oversee slate of original programming that aligns to the creative vision for MolQ Films
• Oversee the development and production of original programming including narrative and documentary films/series.
• Develop and maintain industry relationships with agents, producers and talent
• Bring in potential projects for development or acquisitions through pitches or submissions from outside companies, talent agencies, studios and independent production companies
• Identify IP for the department to option and develop
• Review scripts, casting, budgets, creative documents, and other materials for development and production.
• Supervise editorial over outside production companies on multiple series/films simultaneously to ensure timely and on-budget delivery of programming
• Knowledge of all aspects of contemporary production and post-production capabilities.
• Monitor production budgets and schedule
• Partner with other departments on launches, press, marketing and general programming needs
• International content experience is valued
• Communicate with the Head of Films regarding strategy, timelines, and direction of productions
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
• 5+ years of experience working in originals development at a production company, studio, or streaming media company.
• Ability to interact and communicate with filmmakers and producers and leverage existing relationships and experience within the entertainment industry
• Strong ability to prioritize key initiatives, develop business cases for budgets and resource investments.
• Outstanding editorial judgment and creative abilities, ability to write clear and concise creative notes, and demonstrated leadership skills.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in related field or an equivalent combination of skills, training and hands-on experience.
• Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.
• Preference for the employee to be based in the New York City area or Los Angeles
• Must have the legal right to work in the United States
• Must have an approved Covid vaccination
