    Job Overview

    The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking an experienced Monitoring Consultant to support enterprise IT monitoring, automation, and observability initiatives across hybrid (on-prem and cloud) environments. This role will serve as a subject matter expert on monitoring tools, automation-first practices, and ITSM-aligned operational processes.

    Key Responsibilities

    Design, implement, and enhance enterprise monitoring and observability solutions

    Automate monitoring workflows to reduce manual effort and improve service reliability

    Support Azure and on-prem infrastructure monitoring (agents, APIs, SNMP, WMI)

    Develop and maintain SOPs, runbooks, service maps, and monitoring documentation

    Integrate monitoring data with ServiceNow for incidents, changes, and problems

    Track SLAs, MTTR, root cause analysis, and operational performance metrics

    Collaborate with Change, Incident, and Problem Management teams (ITIL aligned)

    Support disaster recovery planning and monitoring validation

    Ensure compliance with Commonwealth IT policies and standards

    Required Qualifications

    5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure monitoring, automation, or observability

    Strong proficiency in PowerShell and one scripting language (Python, Bash, or SQL)

    Hands-on experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, KQL, Ansible

    Experience with Azure Automation and CI/CD pipelines

    Monitoring tools experience: SCOM, SquaredUp, Dynatrace, Datadog, or Splunk

    Experience with ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms

    Knowledge of API integrations and secure authentication

    Understanding of ITIL practices (Change, Incident, Problem Management)

    Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field

    Preferred Qualifications

    Azure certifications (Administrator or Solutions Architect)

    ITIL 4 Foundation or higher

    Disaster Recovery planning and testing experience

    Performance tuning and monitoring dashboard experience

    Candidate must live within commuting distance of Harrisburg, PA

    This is a long-term contract with potential extension
