    General Statement of Duties:

    This position is responsible for administration and implementation of the Youth Enrichment Programs, typically consisting of the After School and Summer Program. Directly supervises, plans, leads, and promotes programs, activities, and events.

    Supervision Received: Reports directly to Recreation Coordinator-Youth.

    Supervision Exercised: Supervises program Leaders, Aides, and Volunteers.

    Essential Duties: The following are examples of primary duties assigned to this position. Other related duties may be assigned.

    Administration:

    Coordinates all communication with outside entities: Montrose County School District, Bus Barn, and service providers as necessary.

    Manages scheduling of staff and Enrichment Programs.

    Responsible for planning, directing, and leading Enrichment Programs.

    Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and strategies for the Enrichment Programs and activities.

    Recommends resources for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies needed for program implementation.

    Prepares program descriptions / information, advises on program costs and fees.

    Reports safety hazards and repair needs to supervisor and to the Facilities Manager. Makes recommendations for facility improvements. May assist in facilities maintenance.

    Programming:

    Creates and implements activities of areas that, at a minimum, include physical enrichment, educational cognitive, and social enrichment for children age 6-14.

    Responsible for the supervision and discipline of participants during the program.

    Communicates with parents/guardians about program activities and schedules, and children’s participation and behaviors.

    Responsible for tracking participant attendance and completing accident/incident reports.

    Assists in the coordination of program spaces. Ensures that MRD facility(ies) are properly prepared, cleaned, and maintained for the purpose of safe and effective operation of programs and activities.

    Ensures the safety of all participants and staff.

    Recruits, leads, assigns, monitors, and supports part-time recreation staff, instructors, and volunteers within assigned program areas.

    Trains, motivates, and monitors part-time employees to maximize performance.

    Observes, monitors, and evaluates Enrichment Programs and activities to assess quality and gather input from patrons on present and future needs.

    Coordinates any needed changes to policies, procedures, methods and rules.

    Provides daily, on-site supervision and monitors Enrichment Programs, activities and special events.

    Maintains records of program operations and results.

    Responsible for the inventory, upkeep and proper maintenance, and purchases of program equipment and supplies.

    Implements new program ideas by identifying activities that align with the mission of the Recreation District and district patrons.

    Knowledge & Skills Required:

    Must have ability to communicate constructively with the recreation division, maintenance division, and other recreation district staff members.

    Ability to perform duties and responsibilities unsupervised.

    Ability to supervise part-time staff, volunteers, and children enrolled in enrichment programs.

    Ability to interact effectively with parents and children enrolled in enrichment programs in a variety of situations.

    Ability to accurately fill out and complete program reports.

    Ability to perform physical duties as required, for example, program setup, general preparation, program equipment maintenance, checkout, and storage, etc.

    Position Qualifications:Experience:

    2 or more years of experience leading activities with children ages 6-14.

    Education or Training:

    A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in education, psychology, social services, or related field.

    One year experience leading youth programs and staff.

    Or

    A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

    Experience working with elementary school students in a formal capacity; teaching experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to design and implement educational and social activities for children.

    License and Certification: The possession of or ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification.Work Environment: The After School Enrichment Program takes place at the Montrose Field House Monday- Friday current hours are 1:15-5 p.m. Summer Enrichment takes place in a pre-approved school setting Monday through Thursday 12:30- 5:00. Other programs may take place within recreation and/or school settings, either indoor or outdoor. Physical Condition:Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time. This position will require moderate lifting, and heavy lifting on occasion, and working indoor and in outdoor weather conditions, on occasion.
