    This position will remain open until filled. We plan on reviewing applications the week of March 4th and interviewing the week of March 11th Position Summary

    This position is responsible for assisting and providing support to the Recreation Coordinator and working with the Head Guard by administering and implementing aquatic operations related to staffing, scheduling, lifeguard techniques, facility usage and rules, chemical testing, aquatics programming, and interfaces directly with patrons to answer questions about all aquatic operations and address patron concerns. This position works a variable schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    The following are examples of primary duties assigned to this position. Other related duties may be assigned.

    Management:

    Maintains a safe environment, providing quality aquatics programming, and managing aquatics employees.

    Monitors and tracks the completion and maintenance of aquatics employees’ certifications; including lifeguards and WSI’s.

    Enforces MRD policies and procedures relating to aquatic programs and facilities, documenting disciplinary notices and providing signed documents to the Coordinator and Human Resources.

    Ensures the daily cleaning / maintenance checklists and care of program equipment are performed.

    Understands and implements the Aquatic Facilities Manuals and Emergency Action Plan.

    Plans, coordinates, and facilitates special events and programs within the aquatic facilities; including advertising and recruiting.

    Keeps abreast of current trends in the aquatic industry and recommends local improvements.

    Manages swim lessons, which includes rosters, schedules, program evaluation forms, and completion of Red Cross records

    Training/Safety:

    Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguard rescue techniques; attends and provides aquatic employee training; facilitates in service training to Aquatics staff.

    Conducts Water Safety Instructor classes.

    Provides safety training for MRD Full-time and Core employees on a regular basis.

    Performs regular safety checks and keeps first aid supplies stocked.

    Performs chemical tests on the water in the various pools at the Aquatic Facilities, and helps problem-solve corrections.

    Administration:

    Maintains accidents / incidents reports for the aquatic facilities and submits reports to Human Resources.

    Manages swim lesson records - Assemble instructor packets with parent letter, rosters, certificates, lesson plans, lesson plan templates and program evaluation forms. Schedules instructors and at times be on deck for general parent questions

    Accurately completes daily operation forms including operation reports, maintenance request forms, cleaning checklists, and chemical testing.

    Manages employee schedules, attendance, approves time and communicates with Coordinator on these items.

    Maintains accurate employee phone lists.

    Completes spot evaluations/audits of employees and uniform enforcement.

    Provides recommendations to the Recreation Coordinator regarding policies and procedures.

    Communicates with the Recreation Coordinator any problems, developments, conditions, or accidents/incidents that take place that may require action.

    Position Qualifications Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of aquatics programming experience and a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience. Education or Training:

    A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, physical education, or related field with:

    One year experience leading recreation programs and staff. -OR-

    Five years’ experience leading recreation programs and staff. -OR-

    A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

    License and Certification Preferred –or- ability to obtain in 6 weeks of hire date:

    Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification or equivalent.

    Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification or equivalent.

    Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification or equivalent.

    Current Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator certification.

    Possession of a valid driver’s license.

    Work Environment

    Office environment with indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities, which includes travel between facilities.

    Aquatic Facilities include high temperatures and humidity with seasonal weather variations.

    Hours will include seasonal variations, with evening, weekend, and holiday hours.

    Extensive public contact.

    Required to utilize their personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement.

    Required to have a cell phone with part of the monthly service cost provided.

    Physical Demands

    Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for swimming, walking, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time. This position requires moderate lifting, and heavy lifting on occasion, and working in indoor and outdoor weather conditions.

    Compensation and Benefits

    Salary Range: $38,618 - $57,928 annually, $1485 - $2,228 bi-weekly, $18.56 - $27.85 hourly
