    General Statement of Job Duties:

    Oversees and assists with the Community Recreation Center (CRC) fitness offerings. This position is directly responsible for ensuring a well-run Fitness Area including organizing Fitzone group fitness classes, personnel training, as well as providing central leadership with facility management. This is a full time benefited professional position that is central to the successful operation of the Community Rec. Center in building community and quality of life in Montrose.

    Supervision Received:

    This position works under the general guidance and direction of the Recreation Coordinator-Outdoor Rec & Fitness and the Facilities Manager.

    Supervision Exercised:

    This position serves as the lead in the general monitoring and oversight of the assigned group fitness instructors and fitness area staff. He or she exercises supervision of group fitness instructors, personal trainers and other fitness providers when on duty. This includes providing guidance and performing spot evaluations as necessary.

    Essential Job Duties:

    The following are examples of primary job duties assigned to this position. Other related job duties may be assigned.

    Directly responsible for leading group fitness classes and assisting the group fitness instructors, personal trainers and other fitness providers, to ensure a quality experience and safe fitness environment.

    The Leader interfaces with customers to answer questions about all fitness offerings and addresses patron concerns.

    Regularly instruct some FitZone group fitness classes. Effectiveness in fulfilling these job responsibilities will be evaluated as a part of the annual Performance Appraisal Review (PAR).

    Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with all fitness instructional staff.

    Provides proper supervision, guidanceand oversight to assigned fitness staff, and shares fitness programming ideas in a clear and concise manner.

    Periodically observes Fit Zone classes and personal trainers to assess quality and garners input from district patrons on present and future needs for the fitness area.

    Researches new fitness programming ideas and stays in tune with local community interests as well as national trends and innovations in the field of fitness, recreation and leisure services.

    Plans for future fitness program needs.

    Shares fitness ideas with supervisor.

    Attends and participates in professional group trainings and staff meetings.

    Provides fitness area orientations for patrons by instructing them on the proper use of the equipment.

    Helps to inform patrons of available classes (aquatics and group fitness) and advises patrons of personal training opportunities.

    Ensures the safety of staff, patrons and participants by enforcing the rules and policies of the fitness floor, Fit Zone room and the walk/jog track.

    Maintains a monthly Safety Inspection Log for the fitness floor.

    Reports any incident or accident to supervisor, and helps to address such instances through follow up in a proper and timely manner.

    Ensures that the fitness equipment is properly used, cleaned and maintained for the purpose of safe and effective operation. This includes encouraging, in a positive way, the re-racking of weights and the proper organization of all MRD fitness equipment. The proper and regular re-racking of weights is ultimately the responsibility of the Fitness Leader.

    Conducts routine, scheduled maintenance and safety inspections and makes recommendations for repairs or replacement of deficient equipment, as necessary. This duty will be completed working with and under the MRD Maintenance team.

    Contributes to facility management as needed including Manager on Duty responsibilities in support of the Facility Leader.

    Supports the creation of the budget and helps track expenditures to make sure to stay within budget as well as track and monitor revenue and participation to ensure goals are being met.

    Follows through on essential duties, as well as other duties as necessary and/or assigned to provide a well-run, safe, high-quality, comprehensive fitness offering for the Montrose community. Position Qualifications: Experience & Knowledge: A minimum of two years of fitness & wellness experience is preferred. A basic knowledge of principles and techniques of how fitness equipment operates is needed. Also, this position must exercise safe work practices and possess the ability to apply basic record keeping methods. Possess the requisite certifications to teach group fitness and provide personal training. Education or Training:

    A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, physical education, or related field with:

    One year experience leading recreation programs and staff. Or

    Five years' experience leading recreation programs and staff. Or

    A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

    License and Certification:

    Certified Parks and Recreation Professional is preferred.

    Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid CPR/AED and First Aid Certificate.

    American Red Cross Adult CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification required within 45 days of hire.

    Possession of, or ability to obtain, valid fitness certifications specific to area of assignment and/or group fitness and personal training needs. This is required within 45 days of hire.

    Work Environment: Indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, with a focus on indoor. Environment involves exposure to noise and machinery and its moving parts. Work entails working closely with others. Working hours will be early mornings and mainly evenings with seasonal variation, weekends and holiday hours possible for the purpose of providing a consistent quality level of service to the Montrose Community Recreation Center Patrons. The employee is required to utilize their personal vehicle, with mileage reimbursement provided by the recreation district. Physical Conditions: Work is performed primarily indoors typically standing or walking, bending, crouching or stooping. This position requires some moderate to heavy lifting of objects weighing up to and over 75 pounds. Work requires considerable muscular exertion at times. Primary functions requires maintaining physical condition necessary for operating fitness equipment and physically performing fitness routines associated with exercise and group exercise classes.
