  • Responsibilities

    Small downtown Spokane, Washington law firm of Human Resources Manager. The HR Manager is responsible for leading and facilitating the HR function for all offices. This position is a critical role to the leadership team and reports to the owner of the law firm.

    Responsibilities - HR Manager

    Responsible for all recruiting of non-attorney personnel in addition to associate level attorney candidates.

    External recruiting firms may be used for specialized or difficult to find personnel.

    Involved in all phases of the interviewing process for all candidates.

    Manage complex employee relations issues; conduct thorough and objective investigations and offer recommendations for disciplinary action, performance improvement plans, annual reviews and terminations.

    Provide day to day performance management guidance (e.g. coaching, counseling, etc.)

    Develop and administer innovative programs, policies, procedures and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the firm. Examples include training initiatives, improving definitions of support roles in the organization, formalizing the onboarding and training process.

    Work with external resources to help administer benefits

    Monitor trends, participate in area and industry surveys, analyze survey results, and make recommendations to management

    Process time and payroll for attorneys and staff

    Maintain positive working relationships with internal & external personnel, leadership and vendors.

    Provide leadership and overall development of direct reports.

    Qualifications - HR Manager

    • Bachelor's degree preferred; degree in Human Resource Management or related field beneficial

    • SPHR/PHR is a plus

    • Minimum of 5 years of related and progressively more responsible and broad-based Human Resources experience; law firm HR experience preferred

    • Strong business acumen, superior problem-solving and relationship building skills

    • Adaptable and flexible leadership style

    • Comprehensive knowledge of principles & practices of HR, including technology applications, HR regulations & compliance

    • Demonstrated skills in employee relations with strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and use sound judgment in decision making; demonstrated ability to partner and influence at all levels in the business and to be viewed as a credible, valuable source of information and integral part of management team

    • Excellent communication abilities, both written and oral

    • Strong organization and time management/project management skills necessary to prioritize multiple assignments and to meet set deadlines; ability to react quickly in a fast-paced, changing environment

    • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with all levels of management, lawyers and employees

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office

    • Integrity and good judgment when handling confidential information
