Morgan's Wonderland Camp is an ultra-accessible™ camp for all ages and abilities, with a special emphasis on giving people with physical and cognitive challenges an opportunity to enjoy summer-camp-type activities alongside guests without special needs. Morgan's Wonderland Camp will include swimming, floating on a relaxing river, hiking, archery, horseback riding, zip-lining and much more.
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Program Manager, The NATURE & BARNYARD COORDINATOR plays a vital role in the success and growth of Morgan's Wonderland Camp ("MWC"). This position will focus on the development and implementation of high-quality programming operations that help create meaningful and lasting experiences for our campers, guests, staff, and volunteers. As a member of the camp leadership team, this role is responsible for ensuring our nature program reflects and furthers the mission and values of Morgan's Wonderland Camp. The Nature & Barnyard Coordinator will oversee the nature facilities, animals, and programming while creating a community of inclusion, innovation, teamwork, and safety.
Responsibilities:
• Safeguard the efficient operation of camp programs through thorough and careful review, development, and implementation of program policies and procedures.
• Oversee the development of nature curriculum and programming to ensure it meets the goals of MWC.
• Provide leadership and day to day management of nature program area with the purpose of enhancing program operation.
• Oversee the creation, review, and retainment of nature activity procedure manuals and activity related records and reports.
• Maintain program equipment to be in good repair, and facilities are kept clean.
• Provide daily care for MWC animals. • Ensure that activity areas meet current ACA standards, Local and State Law, and the Morgan's Wonderland code of standard practice.
• Obtain appropriate certifications and education level needed for activity area.
• Actively support and promote a safe environment and ensure that proper safety precautions are being followed.
• Continual planning and implementation of enhancements to nature activity.
• Participates in on-going professional development and maintains an understanding of current best-practices.
• Coach, instruct and/or consult members of the program staff team in regards to nature activity.
• Evaluate the need for, prepare, and conduct in-service staff trainings and monitor staff to assess the need for outside or specialized training throughout the year.
• Cultivate staff morale by monitoring team dynamics and individual needs.
• Monitor and control systems, practice, and education as it relates to risk management and safety for participants/employees.
• Provide support to other departments as needed.
• Attend and participate in employee trainings and meetings
• Mitigate risk whenever possible and make safety recommendations to all departments.
• Manage camp-wide projects when needed.
• Any other duties as required.
Qualifications
• Nature & Barnyard Coordinator must have demonstrated experience in teaching about and caring for animals and nature.
• Commitment to the mission and core values of Morgan's Wonderland, as well as the implementation of these values in all daily work activity is a necessity in this leadership role.
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience
• Must possess high levels of self-motivation and leadership abilities.
• Ability to work effectively across departments, with members of the executive team, board members, and volunteers with confidence and professionalism.
• Willingness and enthusiasm to work as part of a team; maintain a positive attitude even under stress.
• Applicable experience working with special needs population
• Ability to delegate appropriate responsibilities involved in day-to-day operations is essential.
• Must be able to capture detail and meet deadlines.
• Must have very good oral and written communication skills and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
• A driver's license is required as well as the capacity to drive to various locations.
Working Conditions
• Physical Requirements –
o Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and twisting upper body for long periods of time.
o Much physical effort required on a routine basis: the ability to lift up to 40 pounds is required. Will be occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
o Frequent and at times, a high level of walking is required.
o Capable of viewing a computer monitor for long periods.
• Environmental Demands –
o The work environment is an outdoor camp environment with continuous outdoor activity and exposure to weather.
o The ability to move quickly across campus on uneven terrain.
o Work is performed in a fast-paced office and outdoor environment that requires attending meetings at different off-site locations
