    Mote is developing a first-of-a-kind technology for woody waste biomass that removes CO2 from the air and produces clean hydrogen to help the world meet climate goals, improve air quality, and reduce wildfires. We are developing large-scale projects based on our innovative and groundbreaking process to safely and permanently sequester carbon underground, and we are looking for standout individuals who are driven by reversing climate change to join our growing team, to help build our company and to contribute to our culture.

    The Project Management Team is responsible for the safe design, construction and start-up of Mote carbon negative hydrogen production facilities with minimal or no changes. In collaboration with community representatives and authorities, contractors and consultants, suppliers, and other Mote teams, the Project Management Team will strive to exceed project quality, schedule and cost objectives.

    The Environmental Planner will provide overall leadership and the management of project permitting activities for planned Mote facilities. S/he will assist the Project Manager and Project Team as needed with various technical and project execution and coordination tasks. As part of a small team, the Environmental Planner will also have the opportunity to assist in broader areas such as grant funding administration and community engagement.

    Responsibilities

    • Being an Environmental Justice champion, and assisting with stakeholder engagement
    • Determining all necessary permits from regulatory agencies (fire, city, county, state, federal), and defining the overall schedule requirements for all applications
    • Drafting and implementing a Project Permitting Plan, including risk assessment, mitigation, expediting applications and liaising with Mote’s legal advisors
    • Drafting services scopes, issuing inquiries and evaluating proposals that lead to technical consultant agreements for various project permitting activities
    • Management of engaged technical consultants, e.g., reviewing deliverables, monitoring progress, reviewing schedules, setting up meetings, drafting minutes, following up on actions, and removing obstacles to ensure that application comments are addressed and resubmitted in a timely manner
    • Reviewing applications and completing with any company/project information as necessary
    • Liaising with the project’s engineering contractor for technical input and feedback, as well as with other Mote teams and 3rd party resources
    • Liaising with the lead agency as well as other various local, state and federal regulatory agencies as Mote’s representative
    • Reporting status and issues with recommended actions to management
    • Bachelors degree as a minimum is preferred; environment or other natural sciences field of study seems best suited
    • Working knowledge of CEQA (the California Environmental Quality Act) and at least a familiarity with NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act)
    • Previous experience with air permitting, with an understanding of schedule requirements
    • Understanding of land use and zoning concepts
    • Must act with the highest degree of professionalism, responsibility and ethics
    • Project experience within California’s Central Valley
    • LCFS experience
    • Previous work or organization experience that demonstrates candidate’s strengths and ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment. Project development experience a plus.
    • Self-motivated, effective working alone as well as within a diverse, integrated team
    • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills in a professional environment
    • Ability to communicate effectively and compose professional emails
    • Organized
    • Proficient in MS Word. Work with MS Excel and Powerpoint likely.
    • Advanced basic skill-level utilizing Goggle Earth and its built-in tools a plus, as is the ability to read and understand engineering drawings, calculations and reports

    Currently, construction-specific permits and other regulatory requirements – such as site storm water control, building permits, fitness for occupancy, among others – are likely to fall with the scope of the project contractor(s), but any experience with these requirements to draw upon during the project EPC phase would be valuable.
