    POSITION TITLE:        Hydraulic Systems Engineer

    REPORTS TO:           Director of Fluid Power       

    FLSA STATUS:         Exempt      

    WORK LOCATION:     Portland, OR

     

     

    POSITION SUMMARY:  The Hydraulic Systems Engineer is responsible for the design and testing of hydraulics and control systems for our customers. This includes designing hydraulic control circuits, sizing hydraulic components and calculating flow and pressure requirements.

    PRIMARY DUTIES:

    • Designs, analyzes and documents hydraulic components and systems.

    • Ensure packaging and routing of hydraulic components, including hose / tubing.

    • Develop hydraulic component specifications.

    • Responsible for adapting new pumps and gear boxes, along with the designing of valves and manifolds.

    • Support and direct various prototype / production builds with shop, while coordinating with vendors for prototype components.

    • Support field sales and service with troubleshooting hydraulic issues of varying complexity, monitoring hydraulic equipment to ensure it is efficiently working, providing support to our fluid power team / customers and make required hydraulic circuit adjustments, and analyze all equipment designs and recommend improvements.

    • Provide technical support in testing, commissioning and system startup.

    • Work with a cross-functional team to achieve common goals.

    • Successfully communicates conceptual ideas and design rationale.

    • Assist in the development of cost reduction ideas.

    • Assess and trouble-shoot failures pertaining to hydraulic systems.

    • Develop customer specific product knowledge and domain expertise.

    • Familiar with detailing of basic parts and assemblies.

    • Effective collaboration with customers (both internal and external) through frequent direct interaction.

    • Utilize SolidWorks / AutoCad tools to develop concepts and designs.

    • Following MFCP protocol; effectively document engineering development throughout product development lifecycle.

    • Address and resolve all customer requests, complaints and objections with a positive and creative approach.

    • Coordinate efforts with all appropriate departments and personnel to ensure customer satisfaction.

    • Ensure that the highest level of customer service, ethics and teamwork are followed.

    • Adhere to strict Safety Guidelines.

    BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

    • Engineering related degree (or equivalent fluid power experience); Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering, preferred.

    • Thorough understanding of using CAD tools; Three (3) or more years design experience with Pro Engineering, AutoCad, and Solidworks, preferred.

    • Five (5) or more years of direct hydraulic systems design.

    • Knowledge of Agriculture, Mining, Industrial, and Construction equipment.

    • Demonstrate an understanding of fluid power filtration, hydraulic manifold design and have a working knowledge of various piping systems, along with system integration experience.

    • Ability to apply engineering theories and principles to mechanical system and component design.

    • Must be Parker HSE trained.

    • Excellent written & oral communication and strong relationship building skills required.

    • Detail oriented with solid organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.

    • Solid computer skills including use of MS Office (Word, Excel & Outlook), with a willingness to learn new software programs. Knowledge of complex functions within MS Excel, preferred.

    • Must be a good listener with above average reasoning ability and make minimal mistakes.  Must be a good learner whom can assimilate product knowledge and skills as they are presented.

    • Must be able to work with a wide variety of people and personalities.

    • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

    • As MFCP is a small employer and employees work in a collaborative team environment, employee must be physically present in the office to perform his/her job functions.

    • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record, in accordance with company guidelines.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Job requires frequent lifting up to 70 pounds, stooping, reaching above shoulder level, pushing, pulling, constantly walking/standing on cement flooring and climbing ladders as needed. Working conditions involve a fast-paced shop/repair and warehouse environment containing moving equipment, fluctuating temperature and inventory in various storage arrangements. The physical demands and work environment reflected are representative of those encountered by employees when performing the essential job functions.
