    Job Description

    SUMMARY: The Underwriting Assistant (UWA) is an important link before and after the underwriter has reviewed the file. The UWA is available for Broker or Retail Branch questions, reviews and communicates status, and signs-off underwriting conditions that do not require the underwriter to review. The underwriting assistant works side by side with assigned underwriters, building continuity, teamwork, and enhancing the swift progression of the file.  

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

    PRE-UNDERWRITING

    • Provides support and assistance to underwriting staff under direction of Underwriting Management.
    • The UWA reviews files once they hit the Underwriting Assignment queue to determine if there are items that can be signed off in advance of pushing the file to Underwriter.
    • The UWA Assigns files to Underwriters at the direction of the Underwriting Manager.
    • Reviews and signs off on Limited Denial Participation (LDP) and Excluded Parties List System (GSA/EPLS) assuring documentation is in the file, run on all parties involved in the transaction, and that all have been cleared.  Any non cleared participants must be flagged and brought to the attention of the Underwriter.
    • The UWA reviews the Fraud Report for both property and borrower, clearing conditions as directed by Management. Refreshes report when changes have been made to the file and clears conditions as needed.
    • FHA - Check CAIVRS for all borrowers

    POST-UNDERWRITING

    • Reviews and signs off conditions as designated by the underwriter/management.
    • Confirms all data such as dates and participating third party agents are input to the LOS and that the AUS and Fraud reports have been updated/refreshed as needed.
    • Runs social security verifications (SSA89) on borrowers when applicable.
    • Compares Preliminary Title Policy, Escrow Instructions and Sales Contract as applicable, FHA Case Assignment as applicable, USPS and appraisals for correct property address.
    • Requests new or updated Verification of Employment/Verification of Income when applicable.
    • Reviews Flood Certs to ensure the LOS has accurate information and that flood insurance requirements are conditioned for and reviewed.
    • The UWA reviews IRS transcripts as needed per Underwriting guides and AUS and signs off as instructed.
    • The UWA Submits Self Employed Borrower Tax returns to LoanBeam and prepares worksheet for the Underwriter.
    • FHA - Ensure Case Assignment is in MWF’s name and request updates as necessary.
    • CONV - Check Condo is Fannie Mae approved when applicable.
    • Once file is completed by underwriter, performs Early Check and LQI compliance reports in order to meet investor requirements and notifies all parties of clearance or deficiencies.
    • Confirms Pre-Closing Verbal Verification of Employment is complete and current within 10 days of Not

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    • One year certificate from college or technical school or minimum 2 years related mortgage experience or loan processor training.

    COMPUTER SKILLS:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:

    ·            Database software (DataTrac and Calyx Point,ConformX)
