    Job Description

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Supervises a team of underwriters and/or underwriting assistants.
    • Ensures compliance with established policies and procedures.
    • Has approval authority for more complex loan request and exceptions to policy.
    • May participate in escalations and Loan Committee.
    • Ensures employee performance reviews are completed in a timely manner.
    • Provides ongoing training for underwriting staff to ensure consistent credit decisions.
    • Completes a secondary and/or management review of loan files to determine compliance with company, investor, FNMA/FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA and Jumbo guidelines and standards.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position:

    • Has current in-depth experience and knowledge of FHA/VA/FNMA/FHLMC/USDA and Jumbo lending guidelines and understands how those relate to internal and investor guidelines

    • Clean understanding of credit strategy and credit risk management

    • Strong organizational and leadership skills

    • Customer service oriented

    • Experience with Automated Underwriting Systems (i.e. DU, LP, GUS)

    • Experience with Appraisal Underwriting Tools such as Collateral Underwriter (CU)

    • Can clearly define problems, collect data, establish facts and do independent research to draw valid conclusions and make reliable recommendations

    • Has a working knowledge of Database LOS software systems, Internet software, Excel and Word processing software as well as paperless document platforms

    • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    • Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or 5 to 7 years related mortgage experience and/or training.

    • 5 years previous management experience.

    • Direct Endorsement (D.E.) underwriter.

    • VA underwriting designation and/or SAR (Staff Appraisal Reviewer) preferred.

      COMPUTER SKILLS:

      To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:

      ·            Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

      ·            Database LOS software – LendingQB preferred

      ·            Internet software such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc.

      MATH ABILITY: 

      Ability to calculate complex figures and amounts when reviewing income, assets etc.
