    JOB TITLES: Counselor Supervisor (CS), Assistant Counselor Supervisor (ACS), Arts & Crafts Facilitator, Recreation Facilitator, Lifeguards (Pool & Lake), Adventure Course Facilitator, Horse Facilitator, Kitchen Staff, Custodians, and Nurses. REPORTS TO: Assistant Programs Director and Programs Director SUPERVISES: Campers, Counselors JOB STATUS: Seasonal position, 4 sessions available from mid-June through mid-August Session 1: June 19-July 2nd Session 2: July 3-July 16th Session 3: July 17-30th Session 3: July 31-August 13th PAID TRAINING (Mandatory): Online Training, All Staff Training May 21-22nd COMPENSATION: varies by position starting at $725/session (2-weeks) OVERVIEW: Who says learning and growing your skills professionally can't be fun? You have found the perfect summer job, that is pure fun, better than Disneyland as campers will tell you. Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp exists to empower children and adults with developmental disabilities through equitable access to the outdoors and recreation. The Camp's primary program is Summer Camp, a residential sleep-away camp occurring from June to August and serving over 500 individuals with developmental, cognitive, and physical disabilities at our 22-acre campsite on the slopes of Mt. Hood. All positions require the ability to live on Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp property for the duration of the session (2-week intervals). Housing and meals are provided while campers are on the property. The person who accepts this position must be flexible, be able to support a team, can be social, and be surrounded by the camp family 24/7. Requirements: Ability to pass a background check. All counselors/staff/volunteers must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by the date of employment and must show proof of vaccination. Current Oregon Food Handler's Certification, or willingness to obtain before June 10th. Current adult First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or willingness to obtain before June 10th. At least 18 years of age. Required to commit to 1 session (2 weeks). Work Week: Sunday morning to Saturday afternoon. Must attend all required training, in-person and online. Refrain from the use of drugs and alcohol including cannabis while in residence at MHKC. All buildings and areas at Camp are tobacco/vape-free except for 1 designated area on-site. DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred. Willingness to work with individuals with developmental disabilities is required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Be a role model and mentor to counselors throughout their whole 2-week experience. This includes assisting them through situations that may be new to them such as personal care, behavior management, setting goals, giving and receiving feedback. Ability to manage a group of people, keeping to a schedule, completing and turning in paperwork on time, coordinating 2:1 ratios when the group splits up, keeping group morale high, creating a safe place, a sense of community, and fostering a strong connection between all group members. Ability to observe camper and/or counselor behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. Knowledge and ability to manage time, communicate effectively, be professional, accept supervision, and provide supervision, creativity, patience, and adaptability. Experience speaking effectively before small groups of people. Ability to present information to counselors, campers, staff, or parents and respond to questions from them. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed daily to the outdoors and possibly to extreme elements (sun, heat, rain, cold) and variable night temperatures. The employee may be exposed to bug bites, blood-borne pathogens, and bodily fluids. Be available as needed to attend to duties related to the business of Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp.
