CONTROLLER: LEADERSHIP TEAM MEMBER
Music City Botanicals, LLC is a start-up company with approximately 1 million square feet of greenhouses located in Gallatin and Smithville, TN, with the primary purpose of growing hemp. Music City Botanicals is looking to capitalize on the current economic environment in the hemp industry by being one of the industry leaders in biomass production for the hemp industry, among other revenue lines.
TIME TO GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER. This is a unique opportunity to join a company with vast growth potential over the next year in an industry where the hemp derived retail product market is expected to reach $23 billion by 2023 (source: Brightfield Group 2019 Hemp Cultivation Landscape Report). We have decided to begin our search for an individual with the right mix of tactical skills, managerial insights, and leadership ability. Preferably, the person will start within two weeks of accepting the position. The role leads Accounting while also being responsible for some Human Resources responsibilities.

This role is ideal for a hands-on professional, who also functions as a senior level business partner, providing authoritative and timely leadership support. The role will:
· Produce monthly financial statements and analysis.
· Explain the business impact of key performance metrics.
· Use business experience to maintain and improve bottom line results.
· Provide Human Resources support to the organization.
Preferred applicants are those who can discuss their technical accounting approach while supporting an innovative workplace that contributes to a positive employment experience. A CPA with 7 to 10 years of hands on experience is required. POSITION: Controller

POSITION SUMMARY: This Controller position is responsible for the accounting, human resources, cash management, and risk management operations of the company. It reports to the President and is part of the Management Team. Duties generally include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate software accounting system and continuous development of a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The duties identified below are the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
MANAGEMENT
1. Maintain documented procedures on all policies and activities.
2. Manage and cost-compare outsourced functions.
3. Be a strategic business partner as part of the senior executive leadership team.
4. Manage all payroll and HR functions.
5. Manage all employee insurance relationships and operations.
6. Assist Owners in maintenance of all shareholder agreements and related legal documents.
7. Manage all banking relationships.
8. Manage all business insurance relationships, operations, and audits.
TRANSACTIONS
1. Ensure that A/P are all recorded and paid in a timely manner taking all reasonable discounts.
2. Perform bi-weekly payroll and all related reporting (including year-end).
3. Process new hires and termination of all employees and temporary help.
4. Process all cash receipts including assignment to job and customer (co-ordinate with Sales Dept).
5. Ensure that A/R are all collected promptly.
6. Ensure that any required debt payments are made on a timely basis.
7. Maintain the chart of accounts and a system of controls over accounting transactions.
8. Complete monthly bank reconciliations and required adjusting entries.
9. Process all necessary transactions for related companies listed above.
REPORTING
1. Issue timely and complete financial statements.
2. Complete the annual corporate reports.
3. Recommend benchmarks against which to measure company performance.
4. Calculate financial statement variances and provide explanations.
5. Provide for a system of job and product line cost reporting.
6. Provide financial analyses as needed for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
COMPLIANCE
1. Provide all corporate information to external accounting firm for tax return preparations.
2. Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
3. Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this position successfully, an individual must demonstrate regular, predictable attendance and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and skill required. The individual must be able to successfully pass background checks.
Experience/Education/certification/licensure:
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
· 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in an accounting related field.
· CPA required.
Knowledge and skills required:
· Related tax experience.
· Human Resource compliance knowledge.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Supervisory of a small staff work.
· Knowledge of how to support change and create processes.
· Establishing and maintaining banking relationships.
· ERP use and reporting experience.
