    Job Description

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Youth Intern is responsible for planning, marketing, and executing programs and events for the Youth Department. The Youth Intern will perform activities within his or her area of specialty. As a team member, the Intern will work with fellow interns under the guidance of more senior staff.  SCOPE: The Youth Coordinator reports to the Chapter Youth Director and is responsible for administering and delivering programs for youth within the two communities. RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Work with Chapter Staff/youth volunteers to develop and strengthen the MAS Youth Department. 
    • Work with MAS Revive leaders to grow local development programs. 
    • Act as a resource for community members who wish to learn more. 
    • Help facilitate monthly youth council meetings. 
    • Post news items, updates, photos, youth spotlight, fun stuff, send emails, find ways to keep youth engaged with Social Media Pages. 
    • Delegate tasks/manage youth volunteers on the council. 
    • Be available to act as staff during selected weekend events. 
    • Work on design that help promote MAS San Diego and its various departments. 
    • Volunteer recruitment and youth engagement. 
    • Other projects as assigned. ADMIN TASKS:
    • Provide entry-level professional services, under supervision of more senior staff as appropriate. 
    • Participate in projects designed to develop professional skills and expertise appropriate to the needs of the organization. 
    • Participate in the planning and implementation of projects within area of expertise. 
    • Responsible or assignment planning and problem resolution. 
    • Receive guidance, training and mentoring from staff in planning and carrying out activities and assignments. 
    • May conduct original research and prepares reports based on findings, to include recommendations or alternative proposals for action. 
    • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 40 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information. Overall mobility is essential. May include sitting for long periods of time. Intern must be able to transport themselves to and from our office for every shift.  LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
    • Interns will improve their interpersonal skills and become more culturally competent
    • Interns will develop skills in working with diverse youth 
    • Interns will enhance skills in marketing and design 
    • Interns will gain skills in outcome-driven instruction program planning 
    • Interns will learn high-level logistics and event planning BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Education: Be a student who is actively pursuing a college level degree or a junior/senior in high school.
    • Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
    • Be able to work 5 hours a week.
    • Must have working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Understanding or interest in social media marketing and advertisement.
    • A demonstrated sense of composition and style.
    • Experience in event planning and logistics.
    • Demonstrated experience design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and similar programs is a plus but not required.
