    Job Description

    WHO WE ARE:

    Established in 1926, Mutual Trading Co., Inc. was originally a small co-op organization for centralized purchasing of basic import foods to service the needs of the early Japanese immigrant society in Southern California. We've grown nearly 100 years old now, and command a premiere position among Japanese foodservice suppliers, as well as fill a key role as "Culinary Ambassador" promoting Japanese foods worldwide. Currently, we import, manufacture, and distribute over 7,000 Japanese foods, beverages, restaurant equipment and supplies.

    HOURS: M-F: 8AM – 5PM; 1 hour lunch; OT may apply

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    • Meets the annual sales target as designated by the manager

    • Goes on business trips to Central and South America approximately 50% of the time a year, visiting customers and potential customers to provide support, information, and sell the Company’s products as needed.**

    • Coordinates with the accounting department to assure the collection of payment in a timely manner.

    • Maintains high levels of customer satisfaction by providing excellent service and building rapport.

    • Maintains good relations with partner suppliers for business building.

    • Responds to and communicate with all customers and partner suppliers in a timely manner.

    • Educates customers on how the products or services can benefit them.

    • Inputs and updates orders within the Company database accordingly.

    • Coordinates delivery logistics with freight forwarders, customer brokers, and customers to meet their needs.

    • Participates in the weekly sales meetings.

    • Attends semiannual inventory count on designated day, possibly on a weekend.

    • Attends Company events and functions outside of normal working hours.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Obligation to answer to all management as requested

    • During the COVID-19 pandemic, this position may be classified as non-exempt. Overtime may apply.

    **During the COVID-19 pandemic, business trips may be limited, only for absolute necessity.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to go on out of country business trips by airplane
    • Ability to sit and drive for extended distances during business trips
    • Ability to reach, bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
    • Ability to sit in an office for a majority of the day
    • Ability to type for extended periods throughout the day
    • Working Conditions
      • Noise Level: Normal to loud while in the office

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • Business level English – Read/write/speak/listen
    • Business level Spanish – Read/write/speak/listen
    • Conversational Japanese; Business level Japanese preferred – Read/write/speak/listen
    • To have and maintain a clean driving record
    • Pass the Sake Advisor course within 1 year of employment
    • Maintain a positive attitude
    • Ability to work independently and as a team
    • Ability to adapt to frequent changes in assignments and workload
    • High school diploma required. Bachelor’s Degree and above preferred
    • 5+ years of relevant experience preferred

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    • Basic mathematical knowledge – markups, discounts, combining/converting measurements, counting inventory, etc.
    • Problem solving skills
    • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency
    • Communications and interpersonal skills
    • Knowledge of Japanese foods and sakes preferred
