    MENTAL HEALTH GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATION SEEKING A PART-TIME FAMILY PROGRAMS COORDINATOR!

    WHAT WE DO

    The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the largest grassroots organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental health conditions. One of 600-plus state and local affiliates that operate as independent 501c3s, NAMI Colorado Springs has served the Pikes Peak region since 1983, offering no-cost education and support programs and advocating for individuals and families with mental health challenges. The organization has grown by responding with passion, urgency and creativity to local needs; assembling a strong governance board of directors and a professional staff; and earning and retaining the trust of individual, foundation and business supporters and mental health colleagues. 

    THE OPPORTUNITY The Family Programs Coordinator will be responsible for oversight of NAMI Colorado Springs' family support programs, which include (but are not limited to) Family-to-Family, Basics, and Family Support Groups. The Family Programs Coordinator will also be responsible for coordinating and instructing Mental Health First Aid trainings. The Family Programs Coordinator will collect data for all family support and education programs.  

    This position's part-time nature (25 hours per week with some evenings and weekends) allows for schedule flexibility and work-life balance!

    WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

    • Implement and coordinate all logistics for the following NAMI education programs: Family-to-Family (F2F), Basics, and Family Support Groups; implement and coordinate all logistics for Mental Health First Aid trainings.
    • Adhere to NAMI policies and procedures as adopted by NAMI Colorado Springs and preserve the fidelity of programs designed and published by NAMI National. 
    • Serve as a mentor to the volunteers for F2F, Basics, and Family Support Groups by assessing, anticipating and responding to their needs. 
    • Prepare educational and training materials, correspondence, and other written program/project materials as needed, with review by Programs Manager. 
    • Help teachers and facilitators learn to identify and cultivate new potential teachers and facilitators from within their classes, support groups, and other NAMI volunteer roles. 
    • Assist with the retention of participants in all family programs. 
    • Maintain current teacher and support group facilitator databases. 
    • Track outcomes data by reporting to the National website and generating reports for Programs Manager. 
    • Respond to all incoming project-related phone calls and e-mail inquiries.
    • Provide coaching, assistance and technical/resource support to program volunteers. 
    • Answer phones and assist people who come into the office as needed. 
    • Represent and support NAMI at community events, health fairs, fundraising events, etc.
    • Assist in meeting day-to-day needs of the office on an as-needed basis.
    • Complete training in diversity, equity and inclusion practices.
    • Train to become a teacher, support group facilitator, and presenter of NAMI programs within the first six months of employment. (NAMI Colorado Springs will cover costs.)
    • Train to become a Mental Health First Aider and train to become a certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor within the first six months of employment. (NAMI Colorado Springs will cover costs.)

    WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION 

    • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Social Work or a related field.
    • A minimum of two years' experience in a social services role.

      

    THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

    • Has experience in a nonprofit environment that serves those with disabilities, including mental illness.
    • Has managed volunteers in a previous role. 
    • Understands the unique and challenging needs of those who live with mental illness, whether serious, long-term illness or trauma-induced/short-term situational illness. 
    • Has excellent organizational skills and communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Has project management experience.
    • Is proficient with Microsoft Office software.
    • Can travel to NAMI office and program/event sites as needed.
    • Is bilingual in Spanish (preferred but not required).
    • Has a membership in NAMI.
    • Is willing to work events, evenings and weekends as needed.
    • Can lift up to 25 pounds.
