    THE GRANT ACCOUNTANT / FINANCIAL ANALYST (GA/FA) IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES TO NARA’S PROGRAM LEADERS. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THIS ROLE POSSESSES EXPERIENCE IN NONPROFIT FUND ACCOUNTING AND IS FAMILIAR WITH THE COMPLEXITY OF GOVERNMENT GRANTS AND CONTRACTS. THE GA/FA IS A MEMBER OF THE GRANT FINANCE TEAM, REPORTS TO THE GRANT FINANCE MANAGER, AND COLLABORATES WIDELY WITH THE LARGER ACCOUNTING TEAM IN SUPPORT OF THE MONTH-END CLOSE PROCESS.

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

    ACCOUNTING

    _ _-        Regularly review expenses allocated to grants and contracts to confirm that expenses are allowable and consistent with the approved budget.

    -        Identify and resolve discrepancies; prepare adjusting journal entries as needed.

    -        Review General Ledger entries for allocating expenses to funders, including payroll and related expenses, indirect costs and large events.

    -        Prepare journal entries to record revenue charges, expenses and indirect revenue and expense. 

    -        Prepare monthly reconciliation of general ledger to funder reports and invoices.

    -        Assist with responding to grant audit requests and other funder requests.

    -        Prepare budget to actual financial reports for program managers on a regular schedule, often biweekly or monthly.

    FINANCIAL ANALYSIS

    -        Proactively monitor program use of grant and contract funds to ensure optimization of resources and contract compliance.

    -        Maintain continual understanding of grant/contract funding sources and budgets, including interdependencies and requirements.

    -        Work with program teams to enhance their understanding of financial implications of programmatic and operational decisions.

    -        Prepare forecasts and models for program use and present figures to program managers during monthly or bi-weekly program meetings.       

    -        Prepare and submit grant financial reports, adhering to funder deadlines and requests.

    -        Assist with preparing grant budget proposals and narratives, budget revisions and continuation and carryover requests.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business with a minimum of 2 years accounting experience, including experience with fund accounting.
    • Ability to absorb new information and adapt to change rapidly.
    • Strong analytical ability.
    • Prior experience in administering federal grants.·      
    • Possess knowledge of state, federal, and local financial laws and regulations.
    • Proficiency w/MS Office, advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software (Financial Edge experience a plus).
    • Exceptional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
    • Detail oriented.
    • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients, the community, and other staff members.
    • Work collaboratively with clients, other NARA staff, team members, and to treat everyone with respect and dignity at all times.
    • Experience working within the Native American/Alaska Native community is considered a plus.
