    Job Description

    The Medical Assistant will be responsible for assisting with COVID-19 medical screenings and must be willing to work outdoors. This position is full time 12-month temporary.

    The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for the intake of clients and preparing them to be seen by the Medical Practitioners.   The MA performs back office skills, obtains baseline clinical data, assists the medical staff as necessary, assists in the efficient operation of the Medical Clinic, and collaborates with the maintenance of the laboratory. This position is vital to the provision of support to the providers and patients in the delivery of Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) team-based care The Medical Assistant works under the primary supervision of the Nurse Supervisor and general supervision of a direct care provider.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    1. SCREENS PATIENTS, DOCUMENTS FINDINGS IN THE MEDICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM AND ALERTS THE PRACTITIONER TO SPECIAL CARE NEEDS
    2. FIELD TESTING PATIENTS - COVID-19
    3. ASSISTS THE PRACTITIONER AND OTHER PROFESSIONAL STAFF IN THE DELIVERY OF PATIENT CARE; REINFORCES DISCHARGE INSTRUCTIONS AND DELIVERABLES
    4. ADMINISTERS MEDICATIONS AND IMMUNIZATIONS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS; DOCUMENTS SAME IN THE MEDICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM
    5. PRACTICES INFECTION CONTROL AND BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN PRECAUTIONS, PROCEDURES AND PRACTICES
    6. INVENTORIES AND MAINTAINS SUPPLY LEVELS FOR PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES;
    7. PERFORMS CLIA-WAIVER TESTING AND COLLABORATES WITH THE CONTRACT LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
    8. SUPPORTS THE NATIVE HEALTH MISSION AS NEEDED.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    1. Knowledge of the medical clinic purpose and operations.
    2. Ability to prioritize duties, perform them efficiently and adjust to and accept unexpected events.
    3. Knowledge of medical terminology.
    4. Medication administration knowledge and skills. [Satisfactorily passed medication administration test and injection safety quiz]
    5. Knowledge of Infection Control and Blood Borne Pathogen processes.
    6. Ability to work efficiently and comfortable with other medical clinic employees.
    7. Ability to help patients feel welcome.
    8. Ability to be punctual and dependable.
    9. Ability to utilize supplies and equipment in a cost efficient manner.
    10. Willingness to learn new tasks consistent with MA training.
    11. Skills in the use of medical instruments and supplies.
    12. Knowledge of the cultural and social background of the Native American and other minority populations.

     QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Must possess CPR certification.
    2. Medical Assistant certification preferred.
    3. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
    4. Two years of experience as a MA in a family practice outpatient setting including experience with pediatric and adult patients.
    5. Evidence of current medication administration knowledge and skills.
    6. Comprehension of HIPAA regulations, compliance and violation reporting.
    7. Spanish language fluency is preferred.
    8. Healthcare information entry and retrieval from the electronic health record skills.
    9. Must be 25 years to drive and be insurable by NATIVE HEALTH liability auto policy.
    10. Must have a valid and unrestricted Arizona driver’s license (within 30 days of hire if applicant is from out-of-state) with no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions in the last five years. No more than two at-fault accidents in the last three years.  Must maintain a valid AZ driver license during employment.  Must be insurable by NATIVE HEALTH liability auto policy
    11. Must pass a criminal background check with a Class I Fingerprint Clearance Card within the initial ninety (90) calendar days of employment.
    12. Must pass a substance abuse testing upon employment, and submit to a random testing during the course of employment.
    13. Must have an updated Immunization (IZ) Record.
    14. Must submit a recent report of Tuberculosis (TB) skin test upon employment and obtain a TB skin annually.
    15. Must obtain a CPR Card within ninety (90) calendar days of employment and maintain a valid CPR card during employment.
