    Job Description

    This position is GRANT FUNDED and continued employment is contingent upon available funding. The Temporary WIC Outreach Worker provides services to applicants and clients of the NATIVE HEALTH Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). This position will lead outreach activities to help increase and maintain caseload. The position is responsible for maintaining the clinic waiting area and managing client information, appointments, and documents. The Temporary WIC Outreach Worker functions in a busy clinic setting and coordinates with internal and external health care and social service providers. This position reports directly to the WIC RD/Supervisor under the general supervision of the Community Health and Wellness Director.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    1. Sets the tone for excellent customer service at entry into WIC.
    2. Checks clients in for appointments and triages them to appropriate staff.
    3. Makes appointments for clients considering client’s schedule and preferences.
    4. Generates no-show management report and follows up on clients who missed appointments.
    5. Answers phone or responds in Teletask text messaging system and addresses client’s needs or triages to appropriate staff.
    6. Maintains a clean and clutter-free reception area, waiting room and bathroom.
    7. Updates demographic information such as address and phone number as appropriate.
    8. Documents interactions with clients in STARS.
    9. Issues benefits to clients and obtains signatures.
    10. Attends trainings regularly.
    11. Attends civil rights training annually.
    12. Maintains client and vendor confidentiality.
    13. Promotes breastfeeding as the norm for infant feeding.
    14. Completes assignments and submit reports, logs, and inventory to the WIC Supervisor in a timely fashion.
    15. Planning and implementing outreach activities and events to aid in increasing and maintaining caseload.
    16. Document outreach activities in outreach log.
    17. Establish relationships with community partners and health care providers.
    18. Updating and maintaining Referral List for participants.
    19. Assists Supervisor in ensuring outreach goals are being met including targeting required populations.
    20. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

    1. High school diploma or GED and successfully completes the ITCA competency-based training program on performing the duties of a Clerk within 30 days of hire and successfully completes an approved breastfeeding course within six months of hire.
    2. Physical: Lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs.; bending, twisting, reaching, climbing, kneeling, walking, standing, and sitting for long periods of time; Prolonged periods of computer use, writing, and use of other tools necessary to perform duties and complete assignments; Ascending and descending stairs; Talking, hearing, seeing, listening and ability to understand; Repetitive use of hands, fingers, arms and eyes. 
    3. Hours of Work: 10 hours/week. Vary and are dependent on business needs, requirements, workflow, and assignments.  Weekend hours may be required.
    4. Job Location: Work will be performed at NATIVE HEALTH clinics in the Greater Phoenix area and within the community.
    5. Must have a valid and unrestricted Arizona driver’s license (within 30 days of hire if applicant is from out-of-state) with no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions in the last five years. No more than two at-fault accidents in the last three years.  Must maintain a valid AZ driver license during employment.  Must be insurable by NATIVE HEALTH liability auto policy.
    6. Must pass a criminal background check with a Class I Fingerprint Clearance Card within the initial ninety (90) calendar days of employment.
    7. Must pass a substance abuse testing upon employment, and submit to a random testing during the course of employment.
    8. Must have an updated Immunization (IZ) Record.
    9. Must have a current Tuberculosis (TB) skin test upon employment and provide an update annually.   
    10. Must obtain a CPR Card within ninety (90) calendar days of employment and maintain a valid CPR card during employment.
    11. Preference given to applicants based on the following criteria: bilingual in Spanish; experience working with American Indian women, infants and children; experience with nutrition counseling of minority populations; experience in the WIC Program; experience and knowledge using a case management or database system; and breastfeeding training.

    15. Ability to use or learn Participant-Centered Services skills.
    16. Ability to maintain detailed records.
    17. Ability to adapt to new situations, policies and procedures.

    19. Willingness to work independently and as part of a team.
