    Job Description

    Looking to ace your upcoming academic year? As an NBCUniversal Academic Year intern, you’ll work on real projects, be part of our collaborative culture, and get the support you need to grow - across two full semesters.     Academic Year Internship Program Details

    Program Dates: September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027

    Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need. We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.

    Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work from New York, NY.

    Academic Year Recruitment Timeline

    NBC News Digital Creative Design/UX __

    As a part of the Product and Design team at NBC News Digital, you’ll join in as we design the future of our products, supporting flexible systems that fuel brands like NBC News, TODAY, Telemundo, and more. Our team of designers are involved from strategy to execution for our mobile apps, OTT platform, web experiences, and the Big Board used on broadcast. You will also have the opportunity to gain exposure to our cross-functional teams and learn from product, engineering, and user insights leaders in addition to being embedded in the design team.

    NBC News Data/Graphics

    This team is responsible for explaining the news through visualizations and data analysis. We build interactives, charts, maps, illustrations, graphics and more to tell the news in a compelling and thoughtful way. The intern should be interested in data visualizations and be an avid news reader. You should have an interest in data journalism and will help find stories that we could be telling in a new and visual way. You will also help create charts, maps and graphics for breaking news stories and for reported features.

    NBC News Mobile App Development

    The team is responsible for designing, developing and testing NBC News’s flagship Android/iOS applications. The intern will be working on native mobile applications across all the NBC News brands and collaborate with developers, product and project management in shipping out features. The intern will be mentored by senior developers in the team and will be guided in their work. The intern will be working on various team initiatives following engineering best practices and writing quality code.

    NBC News Digital – Software Engineering

    As a Software Engineer Intern, you will partner with the Product, Operations, Design, and Editorial teams to bring NBC News Digital content to life. You will be a significant influence on our product roadmap, bringing a technical and strategic perspective. You will work alongside fellow inspired developers in a fast-paced environment using technologies like Sass, React.js and GraphQL to help shape the future of digital news.

    Basic Requirements:

    • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027). December 2026 graduates are not eligible for this Academic Year Internship Program.
    • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
    • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
    • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027.
    • Must be willing to work in New York, NY.

    For further clarification, candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.

    NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire. ****

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
    • Strong interest in the media and/or technology industry.
    • Previous internship experience or on-campus leadership/projects a plus.
    • For technical roles: Knowledge of HTML, C++, CSS (SASS, PostCSS, LESS), Java, Javascript, rxJava Adobe Illustrator, D3.js, QGIS, Wireframing, Figma, Sketch, GraphQL, Microsoft PowerBI / Tableau reporting and visualizations.
    • Desired Majors: Digital/New Media Studies, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business Analytics, Data Journalism, Information Technology, Network Engineer, Mobile Development, Programming, Product Management, Project Management, Software Engineering, Statistics, Web Design, Web Development, Technology Management, User Experience (UX).

    The hourly rate for student interns is $30.00.
