    Job Description

    The NBC News Washington, DC Bureau is offering a Digital Media Researcher position. This position is intended for individuals with a strong interest in television journalism; specifically, network news and cable news. The position provides opportunities to learn the basics of technical production by observing and working with some of the best, most experienced news professionals at a major news organization. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, strong organizational skills, a flexible schedule and the ability to work in a highly deadline-driven environment.

    Responsibilities:

    • Obtaining, logging, and organizing footage from a variety of sources
    • Researching archival footage and providing support to the digital media unit
    • Building and maintaining database of archived material
    • Working directly with producers and correspondents on stories for broadcast and digital
    • Using editorial judgment to select best footage for air
    • Working closely with ingest operators and editors
    • Managing restricted material
    • Supporting Nightly News, TODAY, Meet the Press, and MSNBC
    • Managing media folders, footage, and logs in AVID Media Central on a daily basis
    • Input content into iNews on a daily basis
    • Organizing incoming media during breaking news coverage
    • Work daily with the Digital Media Specialists
    • This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of 3 days per week.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or trade school
    • 2+ years’ experience working in TV journalism
    • Unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
    • 24/7 availability: ability and willingness to work overtime, nights, holidays, and weekends, often with short notice.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Must be able to consistently and effectively juggle multiple priorities
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with various levels of employees within the organization
    • Must be a self-starter and require minimal supervision

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Strong research and organization skills
    • Detail-oriented
    • Experience with iNews, AVID and/or Media Central a plus
    • Excellent verbal communication skills
    • Solid knowledge of current events and politics
    • Experience conducting video research
    • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and quickly changing objectives/priorities in a fast-paced environment
    • Team player
    • Excellent computer skills
    • Experience using research databases
