    The Music Licensing Specialist role will be primarily responsible for providing comprehensive music-related services and guidance to nationally broadcast basic cable television station(s) with an emphasis in News. This role will also assist with various department functions/projects as they may arise. This position does not include any creative music supervision responsibilities; including consulting on music placement in productions.

    JOB DUTIES

    Provide complete music services for productions and administrative support for clients/team; including but not limited to the following areas:

    • Administer cue sheets (e.g. creation, review, analysis, revision, submission and provide regular trainings to various areas)
    • Work with production to ensure all music used is consistent with practices and guidelines
    • Update systems (i.e. DeskSite, ELF, SharePoint, etc.)
    • Use internal systems and provide support/input necessary for expansion/upgrades
    • Process payments; set up vendors in system and interact with AP team
    • Assist with music license process: requests, pick-ups, licenses, etc.
    • Research music for all details pertinent to clearance, tracking & reporting  (e.g. publishing, label, PRO, usage)
    • Liaise with the NBC Music Library and other areas as they relate and also support the team & clients
    • Assist with tracking grids, cost charts and database for production music usage and licensing
    • Communicate and maintain relationships with production teams, publishers, labels, music libraries and other related internal and external contacts
    • Assist with other team and department projects as they arise

    BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

    • Minimum 1 – 2 years commensurate experience
    • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, Word)
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred

    • Some experience with music cue sheets, music clearance, and negotiation skills
    • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize work and work with different clients simultaneously
    • Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated initiative; accountable self-starter with strong organizational skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong client-support and service orientation (internal and external clients/customers)
    • Demonstrated ability to execute and follow-through with minimal supervision; works well independently
    • Demonstrated experience and willingness to perform at a high level as a team player
    • Knowledge of the current market rate of artists and publishing catalogs
    • Diversified knowledge of contemporary music as well as classic music catalogs and their applicable record labels
