    Focus Features is the specialty film division of Universal Filmed Entertainment, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies. Focus Features is involved with the development, production, marketing, distribution, and sales of feature films on a worldwide basis across all consumer platforms.     Focus Features seeks a highly qualified candidate for the position of Senior Analyst, Strategy and Business Development. The ideal candidate will manage and develop strategic planning activities for the company and its slate of feature film releases. Specific projects will include market research, financial modeling, and recommendations related to film-specific distribution plans, emerging industry trends, expansion opportunities, competitive threats, and internal business performance improvement. The position offers unique exposure to a wide variety of businesses within the media and entertainment industry. The position will report to the Senior Vice President, Focus Features.

    Focus Features is seeking exceptional candidates with 3+ years of experience in strategic planning, management consulting, business development or investment banking, ideally in the entertainment industry. The role requires superior strategic, financial and relationship skills. The individual must possess the ability to interface effectively with multiple levels of management, ranging from senior corporate executives to business unit managers and third parties.

     

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Work closely with senior management to formulate the vision and strategy for Focus Features
    • Prepare financial models related to film acquisition, film financing, production, and distribution
    • Formulate presentations for executive management on current Focus Features’ initiatives
    • Identify and evaluate business development opportunities, including preparation of business plans and potential growth
    • Prepare strategic market analyses and special projects to optimize product mix to identify potential areas of future growth
    • Develop specific distribution plans for Focus Features’ release slate as well as ongoing market-wide competitive release schedule analysis
    • Drive growth initiatives such as the maximization of distribution channels
    • Synthesize and centralize various data streams to develop new and continually improve existing statistical models
    • Gather reporting requirements from business stakeholders and convert into technical solutions that give users access to the data in a format that highlights actionable insights
    • Leverage business intelligence and statistical modeling tools to enhance proprietary box office prediction model
    • Analyze maximum efficiency of marketing initiatives including media mix, digital targeting, and in-theater marketing tactics
    • Monitoring impact of online activity in offline tracking services (NRG, MarketCast, OTX) and exit polls

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    • BS/BA degree
    • 3+ years of experience in strategic planning, management consulting, business development or investment banking, ideally in the entertainment industry
    • Quantitative and analytical skills, including financial modeling experience

    DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS

    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to author and deliver presentations
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
    • A solid understanding of media market, including film, TV, and direct-to-consumer business models
    • Prior Investment Banking or Management Consulting experience preferred
    • Strong interest and prior experience in the entertainment industry is strongly preferred
    • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, including significant financial modeling experience
    • Strong attention to detail and outstanding written and verbal communication skills
    • High degree of professionalism and the ability to interact with senior management
    • Experience in data analysis, modeling and reporting
    • Prior experience with business intelligence tools such as Tableau and Power BI with specific emphasis on developing interactive dashboards
    • Prior experience with statistical modeling tools such as R or other programming languages
    • Working knowledge of Big Data systems, Cloud hosted BI systems, ETL processes, Data Warehouse Schemas
    • Experience with SQL or other data discovery and analysis platforms in a capacity supporting day-to-day operations
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
