ABOUT THE ROLE: NBC Universal has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to become the Middleware/Web Engineer (Microsoft Platform) of Media Infrastructure Technology with a specific focus on support of the Media Technology and Infrastructure Division for NBCU Operations and Technology (O&T).  O&T supports Enterprise Technology, Broadcast and Production systems across the NBCU portfolio globally. The Middleware/Web Engineer (Microsoft Platform) of Media Technology and Infrastructure will partner with NBCU resources on technology strategy, day to day operations and platform support, long range initiatives planning, collaboration with cross-functional business leaders and partners, and management of a dynamic team providing “best in class” support for our NBCU Media I stations.

• AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • Responsible for Architecting and Designing highly available, scalable, secured, distributed Web and Middleware hosting solutions
  • Subject Matter Expert in Web and Middleware Technologies on the Microsoft Platform
  • Secondary support in Web and Middleware Technologies including Apache Web Server, Jboss, Tomcat, and Java EE
  • Collaborate with Application Team to establish Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery orchestration pipelines
  • Assist project teams in scoping, design, and project work estimations
  • Actively participates in project meetings and provides input to design and implementation of middleware solutions
  • Identify issues and project business requirements and develop solutions to them
  • Own responsibility for the technical quality of our team’s solutions delivery; describe architecture decisions and rationales at a detailed level to both client and internal teams
  • Own responsibility Continuous Improvement initiatives and work with other technical leads to define and maintain compliance with organizational standards
  • Collaborate with Cyber Security and identify solutions for remediation of vulnerabilities in the web and middleware infrastructure
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Monitoring to implement monitoring and alerting for Web and Middleware technologies
  • Participate in 24/7 support by acting as an escalation point for any production issues
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team colleagues and direct reports

REQUIREMENTS:

• SKILL SETS
  • 5+ years of Hands-on experience in IIS Web Administration experience (Microsoft Platform)
  • 2+ years of Hands-on experience in Apache, Jboss, Tomcat web administration experience, in Linux environment
  • 2+ years of Hands-on experience in Web Architect experience hosting JEE & LAMP -based solutions
  • 5+ years of experience in setting up JSP, PHP, PYTHON and .Net applications
  • 2+ years experience with Automation, Configuration Management, Orchestration; Infrastructure as code (Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, or similar toolsets)
  • 2+ years experience with DevOps workflows leveraging version control pipelines (Git, Team Foundation, Visual SourceSafe, etc.) and CI/CD (IBM UrbanCode Deploy, or similar toolsets)
  • 2+ years of knowledge in performance tuning JVM parameters
  • Configuration of Apache, IIS, Jboss, Weblogic Web/App server for n-tier apps and high volume sites
  • Configuration of app to use the Web services, Integration platforms, 3rd party components
  • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., OP5/Nagios, Turbonomic, App Dynamics)
  • Knowledge of Network Technology (Design of TCP/IP, UDP, IPV4, IPV6, DNS, SSL, F5 Load Balancer)
  • Must have conceptual knowledge of firewalls, proxy, local traffic monitors
  • Must have conceptual knowledge of TLS-enabling technologies such as X.509 certificates, public key infrastructure, and certificate authorities.
  • Must have conceptual knowledge of web application firewall (WAF) technologies and how they integrate with web applications
  • Knowledge of worker process, thread allocation, application pools, worker process settings for web traffic management
  • Above average skills of scripting (bash, python, Ansible, chef) or similar
  • Clustering at Web /app server level, for multi node deployment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Experience with Java Virtual Machine (JVM) monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Understanding of database configuration from a web server point of view
  • Working knowledge of Single Sign On authentication
  • Working knowledge of SSL certificate management
  • Knowledge of the OS : Linux, Solaris, and Windows Server
  • Knowledge of SAN and NAS storage
  • Skilled at making decisions and problem solving
  • Ability to communicate with external customers in the resolution of support issues

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• B.S. degree in Information Technology, Business Administration or other technical discipline
• Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, Denver, CO, London, UK
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the US
• Must be willing to work evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays with little or/no notice
