    Job Description

    Fall 2023 / 2023 - 2024 Academic Year Internship Program:

    • Program Dates: September 18, 2023 – December 8, 2023 / April 19, 2024 (Academic Year)
    • Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need. We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.

    The Entertainment Group develops and schedules the network’s primetime, late-night, and daytime entertainment programming, including USA, SYFY, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, and Universal Kids. NBC’s quality programs and balanced line-up have earned the network critical acclaim, numerous awards and ratings success, including most recently winning the traditional September-to-May season in primetime’s key demo, marking the network’s third win in four years. NBC has earned more Emmy Awards than any network in television history.

    The below opportunities listed offer an extended internship experience which will span both the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters for a full academic year. Working over winter break will not be required.

    Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to:

    • Unscripted Content – Alternative: The intern in this role will prep for, attend, and participate in current series production and show meetings as well as conduct research and create documents tracking talent, competition, industry trends and new show ideas. Interns will also watch cuts of new programming in various stages of completion, providing feedback and assisting with the creative process.
    • West Coast Content Acquisition: The West Coast Content Acquisition team works on content acquisition and co-production. The Content Acquisition Intern will be a vital part of after deal end-to-end partner relationships, including working cross-functionally with NBCU leadership and business units to ensure strategic and operational alignment. The intern will evaluate libraries of content from major entertainment studios and independent distributors to help select and secure key titles that will help deliver against business goals. They will also help identify and compile programming/promotional opportunities from third-party distributors

    The below opportunities listed will be offered for the Fall semester only. Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to:

    • Entertainment Casting – West Coast: The Entertainment Scripted Casting Group oversees the casting process for all the network’s primetime, late-night, and daytime entertainment programming, including USA, SyFy, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, Universal Kids and newly launched streamer, Peacock. Interns will learn essential casting software (Breakdown Express, CasIt, IMDb, etc.) and become familiar with the casting process for NBCUniversal scripted shows (read scripts, see breakdowns, etc.)
    • Entertainment Scripted Content: The Entertainment Scripted Programming team develops and schedules original scripted programming for Peacock, NBC, USA, and SYFY. Interns will get script coverage experience in addition to attending pitch meetings.
    • Unscripted Content – Alternative: The intern in this role will prep for, attend, and participate in current series production and show meetings as well as conduct research and create documents tracking talent, competition, industry trends and new show ideas. Interns will also watch cuts of new programming in various stages of completion, providing feedback and assisting with the creative process.
    • Unscripted Content - Lifestyle & Documentary: The intern in this role will prep for, attend, and participate in current series production and show meetings as well as conduct research and create documents tracking talent, competition, industry trends and new show ideas. Interns will also watch cuts of new programming in various stages of completion, providing feedback and assisting with the creative process.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Basic Requirements:

    • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program.
    • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
    • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by NBCUniversal.
    • Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA.

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
    • Previous internship experience within a corporate setting a plus
    • Have a passion for media and entertainment, as well as a familiarity with industry trends
    • Possess strong organizational skills, with technical proficiencies in Excel and Power Point
    • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Interest in development, production, or current programming

    The hourly rate for student interns is $17.00.
