    Job Description

    Academic Year Internship Program:

    Content Distribution is a division of NBCUniversal which drives the North American distribution of NBCUniversal’s multi-billion-dollar broadcast and cable network portfolio, accounting for a large percentage of the total NBCUniversal TV revenue. We ensure NBCUniversal’s networks, Peacock and the Olympics have the widest possible distribution across cable, satellite, telco and streaming distribution platforms that reach more than 90M households (e.g. Comcast, DIRECTV, Verizon, Hulu Live TV, YouTube TV, Optimum, Spectrum, etc.).

    Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to:

    • Program Management Business Intelligence: this intern will be part of the Content Distribution Digital Products and Operations team. They can expect to play an important role that stretch across multiple teams within Content Distribution and across external technology teams. Project and role responsibilities will include but not limited to creating and deploying data visualizations using Tableau or Metabase and developing alerts to continuously monitor health program streams.

    Responsibilities:

    • Works within a collaborative team environment
    • Problem solving issues within Content Distribution databases:
      •   * Identify problems within processes, break down issues that are causing the problems, identify possible counter measures, conduct experiments to test counter measures to see which one works best, deploy the fix
        
    • Cleaning data by de-duping, standardization, and flagging missing values
    • Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) new datasets into SQL servers, ensuring fit within current database infrastructure
    • Develop and maintain data models, ETL processes, and data pipelines using Python and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
    • Manage user access permissions through Active Directory (ADGroup) and Microsoft Security Support Provider Interface (SSPI) for various data platforms and tools
    • Create and deploy data visualizations using Tableau or Metabase, helping team with the early detection of trends
    • Develop alerts to continuously monitor health program streams
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Basic Requirements:

    • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2024 through April 2025). December 2024 graduates are not eligible for our 2024-2025 Academic Year Program.
    • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
    • Must be authorized to work in the United States throughout the entire duration of the internship (September 2024 to April 2025). Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
    • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 16, 2024 to April 18, 2025.
    • Must be working from a location within a U.S. state during all hours worked.

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
    • Demonstrate experience in the following areas through examples:
      •   * Problem solving:
        
        • Identified problems within processes
        • Broken down the issues that were causing the problems
        • Identified possible counter measures
        • Conducted experiments to test counter measures to see which one works best
        • Deployed the fix
        • Has worked in a collaborative team environment, developing relationships with team members to build out products
        • Continuously self-develops: constantly explores new methods and technologies
    • Proficient in using Windows-based workstations
    • Proficient in using MS Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint
    • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong organizational skills and outstanding attention to detail
    • Enrolled in Bachelor or Master degree with one of the following:
      • Computer Science, Statistics, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Business Intelligence
      • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with the following:
    • Windows-based workstations
    • Python, SQL, Tableau, MS Excel, VBA, MS Visual Studio Code
    • Active Directory (ADGroup) for user access management
    • Microsoft Security Support Provider Interface (SSPI) for Windows authentication
    • Developing dashboard and views using data visualization applications (e.g. Tableau; Power BI)
    • Reading and writing SQL queries
    • SQL joins and common SQL table expressions
    • Working with multiple data sources and data types
    • Evaluating datasets for quality and accuracy by identifying discrepancies within datasets

    The hourly rate for student interns is $17.00.

    INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ATTENDING U.S. UNIVERSITIES:

    To participate in NBCUniversal’s 2024-2025 Academic Year internship program, you must confirm at the time of interview that you will be able to provide US work authorization documentation for the entire duration of the internship. Since the NBCU Academic Year Internship Program spans the traditional “Fall” and “Spring” semesters, you should talk to the DSO at your school’s International Students Services Office about your need to apply for CPT work authorization twice to ensure you are authorized to work both semesters and throughout the entirety of the program.

    Please also note that future visa sponsorship at NBCUniversal is rarely available for post-grad employment opportunities.
