    Job Description

    ROLE PURPOSE

    The Associate Counsel, Intellectual Property will draft, advise on and negotiate innovation and technology transactions for Universal Pictures, DreamWorks Animation and other business units. The role will also assist with IP elements of NBCUniversal’s M&A activities.

    JOB DUTIES

    • Assist with drafting and negotiation of agreements for the company’s development and deployment of emerging technologies. Key current areas of focus include advanced VFX and animation technology, VR/AR/MR, AI, web3 and metaverse-related applications
    • Draft and negotiate software licenses and services agreements
    • Provide IP support for acquisitions and equity investments, including assisting with structuring and negotiating IP provisions and conducting IP due diligence
    • Advise business on legal issues associated with new technology prototyping, R&D and joint development activities
    • Work with the team to advise business unit lawyers on IP technology elements of agreements with partners and vendors, and help to devise uniform policies for such elements as appropriate
    • Other matters as needed
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    BASIC REQUIREMENTS

    • JD or LLM degree from an accredited law school
    • Member in good standing of the California State Bar, or of another State Bar and willing to register as in-house counsel
    • Minimum of 2 years of law firm or in-house transactional experience (preferably including some experience with IP technology transactions)
