    Job Description

    Universal Brand Development is looking for a person with a love for story and product development. This person will need excellent project management skills with an editorial background. Required to have experience in story and product development. Experience in licensed publishing is preferred. The Editorial / Project Manager will support the Publishing team in trafficking while taking ownership of storytelling in select licensed properties. He/she will be responsible for ensuring all publishing product conforms to brand guidelines through research and partnerships with our studios. This person will be part of a passionate creative publishing Product Development (PD) team that strives to deliver best-in-class products alongside our partners. He/She should have an understanding of story from a visual perspective.

    EDITORIAL:

    • Manage and ensure brand excellence through storytelling and editing
    • Work closely with the Franchise team and Publishing to understand and contribute to brand story-mapping and universe building
    • Take ownership of storytelling within the scope of assigned properties, including story extensions
    • Work with in-house Product Development, Creative and Design, and Production Teams as needed to meet all NBCU guidelines and expectations
    • Review, traffic, and provide appropriate editorial feedback on concepts, outlines, and manuscripts as part of the day-to-day publishing submissions, including comics, graphic novels, books and magazines, and any materials relating to the publishing business as required
    • Read scripts and stay current on assigned films and TV shows to understand tone, humor, and character personalities
    • Attend Franchise meetings as well as production pitches for upcoming films and TV shows
    • Create style sheets and key beats documents
    • Ability to review design and art based on the storytelling

    PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

    • Work closely with all members of the Publishing team to understand and manage the business effectively at both domestic and global level
    • Support licensees in understanding the available assets, character bibles and canons, general guidelines, and story parameters
    • Keep Publishing plans and schedules up to date and create daily hot sheets
    • Work with publishers globally on scheduling needs of reference, stills, scripts, and picking up master book files
    • Work with asset management on scheduled delivery of assets, including images and scripts
    • Manage process flow and prioritize schedules based on product development calendar
    • Manage publisher and product approval meetings which includes leading product development kickoff meetings/calls with licensees
    • Update publishing catalog
    • Traffic book submissions and other relevant materials to, Design, Character Art, Franchise, Production, and third-party stakeholders
    • Assist Publishing team in preparing Visual Line Plans, presentations, new creative projects, and pitches
    • Manage original content creation, includes  working with senior manager to select writers, illustrators and setting schedules
    • Keep up to date with all assets available for properties
    • Work with Legal to ensure all assets created and talent images are clear for use
    • Establish and maintain relationships with external partners (licensees, agents, retailers, and creative vendors) and internal partners (Category, Creative, Franchise, Marketing, Retail Sales & Marketing, Leadership, third-party content developers) to ensure open communication and alignment on product development strategies
    • Manage publishing approval meetings to ensure submissions are reviewed by all necessary parties, appropriate feedback/approvals are gathered, and turnaround times are met within the appropriate time frame

    COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION:

    • Understands and communicates strategically to team and partners
    • Excellent ability to collaborate with partners on areas of responsibility
    • Required to communicate weekly with Publishing Creative Director
    • Coordinates with cross-functional partners on new projects

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 5-7 years of experience within the licensing, project management, editorial or publishing industry
    • Possesses a solid understanding of the entertainment industry and Consumer Products business
    • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organization skills
    • Entertainment industry experience with license-based consumer product approvals
    • Polished ability to verbally deliver presentations with full command of material, full command of the stage, and ability to steer discussion toward actionable conclusions
    • Previous experience in children’s publishing editorial a plus
    • Knowledge of the children’s publishing industry and a strong understanding and proven passion for branding, licensed characters, and intellectual property management
