School Year Tutor- Hamilton Twp School District Reports To: NJTC Site Coordinator Subordinate Staff: N/A

BASIC FUNCTION The New Jersey Tutoring Corps Inc. provides high-dosage tutoring for K through Grade 8 students in math and literacy to close learning gaps. Tutoring will be embedded in established networks of community-based organizations in high-need communities and Local Education Agencies (LEA). The New Jersey Tutoring Corps is seeking to hire Tutors to work with Scholars at a variety of sites across the state. Tutors will work with small groups of scholars, typically in groups of 1-5, in grades K-5 in building skills in Math and Literacy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Engage with scholars in grades K-5 to build on existing skills in mathematics and/or literacy.

Complete daily records on scholar progress and site needs using the tools provided.

Communicate regularly with the Site Coordinator, senior staff, and on-site staff to provide optimum learning- experiences for Scholars.

Receive coaching from an Instructional Coach.

Use an asset-based approach in working with Scholars.

Work collaboratively with other Tutors and site staff.

QUALIFICATIONS Required Qualifications:

Experience in working with young children, preferably in a learning and teaching capacity.

New Jersey Certification of Criminal History (fingerprint form).

Complete all training.

Experience with Google suite functions including Google sheets and forms.

Professional skills including attention to detail, timely and proactive communication, and job preparedness.

Reliable transportation to travel to sites.

Employer Qualifications:

Tutor must be able to:

Arrive to work on time,

Prepare lessons digitally,

Take attendance digitally and sit with students for 4-8 hours a day,

Clearly communicate instructions to students in grades K through 8.

Genuine desire to work with young children in a teaching capacity, building on foundational skills and closing learning gaps using formative and summative data and strong teaching pedagogy.

Some classroom or teaching experience, e.g. as a pre-service teacher candidate, para-professional, substitute teacher, teacher, or community educator.
