    Job Description:

    • Supervises and participates in the treatment of mentally ill patients. Includes:assessing and treating persons detained and committed under RCW 10.77, RCW 71.05, and SB 6358.
    • Formulated diagnose, prescribe medications, and monitor medication regimen. Is treatment team leader with duties to coordinate the input from psychology, social work, nursing, and rehabilitative therapies so that patient's treatment plan is effective and appropriate. When necessary, arbitrates aftercare plans.
    • Provides consultation and training to peers and other disciplines. Prepares court petitions and gives testimony in hearings. Advises family, community agencies, courts and others regarding hospitalization treatments and aftercare plans. Performs psychiatric assessments.
    • Order labs and other tests. Utilizes treatment modalities as individual psychotherapy, group therapy, family counseling and the use of psychotropic drugs.Records progress notes in patient's record.
    • May work as Officer of the Day (OD). When OD, advises mental health professionals in the community as to involuntary admission of certain patients, based on evaluation of their reports and medical status of patients. Carries out the responsibility of the resolving hospital administrative problems, as well as treatment of medical and psychiatric emergencies for entire hospital.
    • Discharges patients from hospital based on evaluation/record of their progress in the hospital. Makes discharge notes in the record. Prepares and sends treatment and discharge summaries to mental health centers.
    • Functions as the senior psychiatrist on the ward, meets regularly with wards professional staff. Participates in formulating or revising ward policies and in establishing or evaluating treatment programs.
    • Participates in unit psychiatrist meetings in their unit. Offers recommendations to improve treatment and policies at the unit level. Offers peer consultation to other psychiatrists. Is an active member of Medical Staff Committee(s)

    Requirements

    • A valid license to practice medicine and surgery in Washington State and successful completion of ACGME approved residency in Psychiatry.
    • Strong psychopharmacology skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals are essential.
