    WANTED: PHARMACIST

    LOCATION:

    • New Mexico VA Health System,
    • 1501 San Pedro Dr. SE, Albuquerque, NM
    • Inpatient/Outpatient Pharmacy

    SCHEDULE:

    • Pharmacy services are operational 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days a year.
    • Subject to varying work hours depending on staffing needs and may be revised as deemed appropriate by the respective pharmacy section supervisor.
    • Work hours may consist of the following 8-12 hr. tours with a minimum of a 12-hour rest period between shifts.
    • Weekend and holiday coverage may be needed pending staffing needs.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must be a graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited college or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in Pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
    • Shall have a full, current, and unrestricted license in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia
    • Must be licensed for controlled substances, with qualifications to practice in any states.
    • All licenses shall be full and unrestricted licenses.
    • Pharmacist (s) who have current, full and unrestricted licenses in one or more states, but who have, or ever had, a license restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action or denied upon application will not be considered for the purposes of this contract.
    • Pharmacist(s) continuing education units (CEUs) must be recognized by ACPE, or as required by the licensing authority by which the pharmacist is licensed to remain current.
    • National Provider Identifier (NPI) / DEA

    DUTIES:

    • Pharmacist shall cover the range of Pharmacy services as would be provided in a state-of-the-art civilian medical treatment facility and the standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting, or exceeding, currently recognized national standards as established by TJC and VA Regulations.
    • Pharmacist dispenses drugs prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and provide information to patient(s) about medications and their use; advises physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosages, interactions, and side effects of the medications. Must be able to evaluate provider medication orders for pharmacologic duplications, incompatibilities, side effects, drug-food and drug-drug interactions and allergies.
    • Must be able to appropriately address potential therapeutic problems due to inappropriate dose, incorrect strength, inappropriate dosing interval, etc. and effectively be able to communicate questionable therapies to providers offering reasonable alternatives that adhere to formulary guidelines established in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
    • Counsel patients and answers questions about prescription drugs, such as those about possible adverse reactions or interactions. Gives advice about durable medical equipment and home healthcare supplies.
    • Must be able to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills in interactions with providers, patients, other Medical Center employees and fellow pharmacy staff members to create an atmosphere of caring, helpfulness and cooperation.
    • Ensure all medication orders are entered and verified in the electronic patient medical record (VISTA).
    • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing receiving, safeguarding, and issuing controlled drugs.
    • Provides strict security for all drugs and controlled substances by maintaining accurate record keeping and perpetual inventory control according to current VHA Handbook 1108.01.
    • Ensures compliance with handling of hazardous drugs and sterile compounding of hazardous drugs as per USP 800.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in aseptic technique and compounding sterile products in compliance with USP 797.
    • Pharmacists will be subject to all local facility competency and testing required prior to participating in sterile compounding.
