    SCHEDULE:

    • Day Shift is 7:30AM – 8:00PM
    • Evening Shift is 7:30PM – 8:00AM, weekends, and holidays
    • LPNs assigned to Charleston VA Long Term Care unit can expect to work 12-hour shifts, with alternating weekend shifts preferred.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • US Citizen
    • Education requirements: required to be a graduate of a state approved school of
    • practical/vocational nursing.
    • The minimum requirement for all LPNs assigned to the CHARLESTON VA shall include a current unrestricted LPN license from any state (United States),
    • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate accredited by the American Heart Association.
    • Long Term Care/Nursing Home - minimum 2 years current experience and, (must have worked within the last six months) in a long-term care setting.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • LPN provides skilled nursing care to patients in Acute Care, Primary Care and Specialty Clinics in Charleston and VA Clinics (CBOC’s).
    • He/she may perform those approved Medical Center procedures that are described in the Licensed Practical Nurse Act, Vocational Nurse VA Qualification Standards.
    • Demonstrates increasingly more independence in his/her management of patient care and demonstrates competence in caring for adult psychiatric, medical, and geriatric patients.
    • Under the supervision of the nurse manager, the LPN works closely with others as needed in the Specialty Clinics and Primary Care setting throughout the Ralph H. Johnson VAMC and VA Clinics (CBOC’s).
    • Functions both dependently and independently with guidance and direction from the Nurse Manager/designee.
    • Provides skilled nursing care to patients in Specialty and Primary Care Clinics.
    • May be utilized as needed in the Acute Care Medical/Surgical areas, in ambulatory/outpatient care clinics, and outpatient lab.
    • Knowledge and skill sufficient to prepare, administer, and appropriately document actions taken specific to commonly prescribed oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and/or intravenous medications as permitted by approved local facility policies and procedures.
    • Observation and documentation will include patient's response to medication administered and the reporting of any noted change in patient's condition to RN or MD/DO.
    • Demonstrated ability to serve as a responsible member of the nursing team and interact [in
    • an appropriate manner] with patients, family members, professional and [other] supportive personnel [involved in the delivery of] patient care, incorporating acceptable, established customer service standards into practice.
    • May be required to work with COVID 19 positive patients and Patients Under Investigation (PUI), for COVID 19
