  • Responsibilities

    NEEDED : MEDICAL TRIP and RECORDS CLERK

    LOCATION: 700 Arch Street Philadelphia, PA 19106

    STATUS: 24 hours per week

    SCHEDULE: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, normally between 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent,
    • No prior employment terminations in the past five (5) years,
    • experience as a medical clerk, medical administrative assistant, medical records technician, surgery scheduler, or medical appointment scheduler.
    • Should have a minimum experience of one (1) year working in a medical office, utilizing medical terminology, use of a personal computer to perform word processing and tracking information and basic typing skills.
    • Knowledge of common medical appointment procedures.
    • Knowledge of confidentiality guidelines and Freedom of Information Act
    • Knowledge of commonly used medical terminology, medical symbols, and medical abbreviations Medical credentials/certification is helpful but not required to perform duties.

    Knowledge required for the position includes, but is not limited to:

    DUTIES:

    • Shall monitor scheduled and unscheduled appointments or hospitalizations at community-based clinics or hospitals.
    • Process and assemble escorted trip authorizations packets for routine, emergency and special outside medical trips as assigned by the CM.
    • Ensure that each escorted trip authorization packet is reviewed by the appropriate Bureau of Prison staff.
    • Tracking appointments/cancellations and special instructions.
    • Communicating special instructions and Pre-authorization requirements to the appropriate Bureau of Prison staff.
    • Assisting in general clerical support functions as necessary.
    • Electronically file inmate medical and dental records and documentation in the Bureau Electronic Medical Records system.
    • Organization and accountability for medical records
    • Assist in internal and external audits
    • Providing clerical support for the Utilization Review Committee
    • Working directly with various stakeholders to coordinate the successful scheduling of medical trips including Bureau of Prison staff, United States Marshal Service, outside medical providers, and the contracted comprehensive medical company.
