 JOB TITLE:      Non-QM Underwriter

REPORTS TO:  VP of Credit Risk

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Underwriting

SUMMARY:  Responsible for reviewing each mortgage file for an applicant’s work history, credit history, and all liabilities and assets contained on a mortgage loan application, along with any other information required for loan approval. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Review resubmitted files and documents
2. Complete thorough manual analysis of mortgage loan files to determine compliance with Non-QM, company and investor guidelines and Matrix to ensure saleability of closed loans.
3. Decide to approve or deny client’s mortgage loans according to relevant information being provided at their loan applications.
4. Verify employment along with income information, provide reviews on credit history and compute the borrower’s assets and collaterals.
5. Document the relevant reasons for the approval or disapproval of loans and add the following documentation into its loan file.
6. Make and issue independent compliant loan decisions
7. Maintain company service level and turn-time standards
8. Respond to audits and post-closing issues in a timely manner
9. Maintain working knowledge of Non-QM guidelines and policies.
10. Submit initial file and conditions to investor.
11. Request exceptions and scenarios as needed.
12. Regularly check status of files with investor for completion of exceptions, initial review, and conditions cleared.
13. Mentor processing staff on underwriting deficiencies and calculation errors
14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Degree:  High School Diploma or Equivalent. 10-15 years prior Non-QM underwriting experience required.
