    Job Description

NRTC’s solutions are developed specifically to meet the needs of rural utilities and their customers, and include integrated broadband, managed services, smart grid, mobile and video solutions. We are a dynamic, growing cooperative with more than 800 employees operating out of eight office locations.   

    JOB SUMMARY 

    The Accounting Specialist is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions for the organization’s day-to-day operations. 

    The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.    

    RESPONSIBILITIES  

    • Accurately process vendor invoices into the system, including obtaining approvals and managing AP Inbox 
    • Review and process employee expense reports including verification of receipts ensure compliance with company’s expense policy 
    • Prepare weekly payment batch to vendors through ACH transfers and check runs 
    • Works with and maintains a close working relationship with vendors to ensure the timeliness of payments and resolve discrepancies 
    • Reconcile vendor statements and answer vendor questions in a timely manner 
    • Receive, record and deposit customer payments & ensure all payments are applied correctly 
    • Preparing member invoices/credit and posting revenues while maintaining current receivables 
    • Obtaining information from other departments to ensure records are accurate and complete 
    • Assist with month end close by ensuring all invoice processing deadlines are consistently achieved 
    • Assist in working with external auditors at year end 
    • Other duties as assigned

     

    QUALIFICATIONS 

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES  

    • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy 

    • Good verbal and written communication skills 

    • Excellent time and task management skills 

    • Good organizational and presentation skills 

    • Proficient in Excel 

    • Ability to interact positively with internal and external customers 

    • Proficient in ERP systems used within accounting departments. NetSuite user is a plus. 

    • Must be able to work independently but also accept input from NRTC personnel that will improve processes

     

    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

    • AA or equivalent required, BA preferred, in Accounting or Finance  

    • Two to five years of related experience preferred

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

    • Work is typically performed in an office setting 

    • Occasionally travel may be required
