Job Summary:
Physical Therapy Assistant is a healthcare professional who assists and works under the supervision of licensed Physical Therapists. The role of the Physical Therapy Assistant is to support the patients’ rehabilitation and recovery process, by applying physical therapy techniques, aiding them in therapeutic exercises, and assessing progress and changes in their physical condition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist Physical Therapists by working directly with patients, ensuring adherence to treatment plans.
- Conduct therapeutic exercises and apply physical therapy modalities, including hot and cold therapies, electrotherapy, and ultrasound therapies.
- Assist patients in performing exercises and activities designed to improve mobility, balance, and coordination.
- Help patients to restore physical function and reduce pain and discomfort by using manual techniques such as soft tissue mobilization, stretching and joint mobilization.
- Educate patients and their families on the correct use of assistive devices such as crutches, walkers, and canes to ensure safety and optimal use.
- Monitor patients’ progress, document and report on changes in their symptoms, and any concerns regarding their recovery to the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Maintain patient records, and complete the necessary documentation for reimbursement by insurance companies.
- Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and safety of the equipment and therapeutic areas.
- Be committed to remaining current in the field and continued professional development.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Physical Therapy Assistant from an accredited institution is required.
- State certification and licensing are required.
- Excellent communication and patient care skills.
- Ability to follow patients’ instructions, and work collaboratively with a team, including Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and physicians.
- Experience in manual therapeutic techniques, physical rehabilitation techniques, and patient assessment.
- Ability to work harmoniously with patients from diverse populations and ages.
- Proficient in the use of computers and electronic medical records.
