Senior Complex Claims Specialist NY Labor Law
Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Complex Claims Specialist with deep expertise in New York Labor Law and construction-related liability claims. This individual will manage high-exposure, litigated matters with limited supervision and work effectively in a remote environment.
This is a contract opportunity with strong potential to convert to a permanent role based on performance and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate, evaluate, and resolve complex, high-exposure liability claims, including litigated and non-litigated matters.
- Analyze coverage, identify coverage issues, and draft coverage correspondence for review.
- Handle claims involving New York Labor Law, including construction-related loss scenarios.
- Manage litigation by selecting and directing defense counsel, establishing litigation strategies and budgets, and monitoring progress through resolution.
- Evaluate liability and damages exposure and set appropriate reserves within authority.
- Negotiate settlements and attend mediations, settlement conferences, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings as needed.
- Maintain thorough, timely, and accurate claim file documentation.
- Identify opportunities for risk transfer, co-insurance, contribution, and subrogation.
- Proactively manage vendor performance and control claim-related expenses.
- Ensure compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, and claims handling best practices.
- Identify potential fraud indicators and take appropriate action.
Required Qualifications
- 6 to 8+ years of commercial general liability claims handling experience.
- Demonstrated, hands-on experience handling New York Labor Law claims. This is mandatory.
- Strong background in complex, litigated construction-related claims.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight in a remote setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Juris Doctor preferred but not required.
- Industry designations such as AIC, SCLA, CRIS, or similar.
- Active adjuster licenses in multiple states or ability to obtain as required.
- New York adjuster license a plus.
