    Director of Commissioning

    Role Overview: We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Commissioning to lead and manage all aspects of our NYC/Metro area Commissioning operations. This role combines strategic leadership, business development, and hands-on project execution. The Director will ensure high-quality project delivery, team development, and business growth, while optimizing processes and profitability.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Leadership & Business Management

    Manage the NYC/Metro Commissioning Office, including personnel, proposals, project execution, and profitability.

    Serve as a working Director capable of executing projects as needed.

    Provide strategic direction and growth for the NYC/Metro Commissioning business in alignment with broader organizational goals.

    Implement standards and processes to streamline commissioning efforts and maximize client value.

    Oversee project profitability, billability, and resource allocation to balance workloads effectively.

    Conduct business development activities, including new client meetings, pre-bid project meetings, and proposal development.

    Track financial projections for office projects and business development initiatives.

    Analyze the local commissioning market and competition to strengthen market positioning.

    Ensure staff have access to the latest industry technologies and necessary training.

    Personnel Management

    Recruit, hire, and retain team members to support business growth.

    Provide technical direction and guidance to ensure high-quality project execution and client satisfaction.

    Monitor and manage field activities, ensuring equitable workload distribution and quality deliverables.

    Develop and maintain client relationships to foster repeat business and long-term partnerships.

    Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.

    Proven business development, sales, and client relationship management skills.

    Financial management expertise and strong business acumen.

    Ability to plan, manage, and execute complex projects to meet client expectations and deadlines.

    Leadership and workflow management experience for both internal and external resources.

    Exceptional attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.

    Excellent communication, analytical, and mentoring abilities.

    Proficient in Microsoft Office and related project management tools.

    Collaborative mindset, capable of working across multiple departments and with clients.

    Minimum Education & Experience:

    Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; MBA or related Master’s degree preferred.

    Commissioning certification from recognized organizations (e.g., AEE, BCA, ASHRAE, ACG).

    Minimum of 10 years progressive managerial, engineering, or construction experience with a record of managing large, multi-faceted projects.

    Construction or general contractor experience preferred but not required.

    Professional certifications (e.g., MBA, P.E.) preferred but not required.
