    Family Health Centers at NYU Langone, a designated Level 3 Medical Home, is the largest federally qualified health center network in New York State, and the second largest in the nation.     Position Summary:
    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Medical Associate - Red Hook, Brooklyn.

    In this role, the successful candidate The Medical Associate performs supportive services to providers and clinical staff in the care of patients in the ambulatory care setting in accordance with the policies and procedures of the FHC.

    Job Responsibilities:

    1 Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and age-related criteria pertinent to the patients served in his/her assigned area.

    2 Registration functions in accordance with Registration polices including, but not limited to:

    a) Responsible for patient check-in and check-out.

    b) Translation needs & documentation.

    c) Gathers all patient demographic related data and materials from patients and/or their representatives.

    d) Verification of Primary Care Provider.

    e) Verification of Site Indicator.

    f) Obtains insurance information (ID card, member/group #s, etc.), verifies insurance eligibility electronically, takes their picture and asks them to use Patient Secure.

    g) On subsequent visits, asks them to verify demographic info and makes any necessary edits.

    h) Web enable all eligible patients for the patient portal.

    i) Ensure patients review and sign electronic patient related documents including consent, financial agreement, HIPAA, HIE, etc.

    j) Follow up with patients and/or their representatives, physician offices, etc. to gather missing data and materials in order to complete the intake process, or refers to more senior level staff.

    k) Scans all necessary documents (insurance cards, lab requisitions, faxed reports, etc) into the intake EMR system.

    3 Greets all patients, family or other related individuals while maintaining excellent customer service and professionalism at all times. Including observes and alerts the nursing staff of patients who appear in need of urgent care

    4 Retrieves laboratory and ancillary test results from the computer or contacts the lab for retrieval of the information for the providers

    .

    5 Completes, retrieves and/or prints patient forms and attends staff meetings and review/signs minutes of meetings not attended. Maintains competence through in-service and educational programs.

    .

    6 Check Out functions in accordance with discharge polices including, but not limited to:

    a) Checks for completeness of encounter forms and prescriptions ;

    b) Verifies insurance Create follow up appointments or manual recall in accordance with the providers instructions

    c) Create appointment for specialty services (including radiology) and ensure referrals are in place.

    d) Print all necessary documents for patients to take home: AVS, Referrals, Lab/Rad forms

    Distribute Metro Cards when appropriate and reconciles with their supervisor as requested.

    7 SmartID: Effectively reviews patient MPI data to ensure that the correct patient is selected for registration or appointment scheduling

    8 Demonstrates EMR competency and has ability to handle emergency situations

    9 Obtains vital signs, height, weights, head and chest circumferences and documents accurately as needed in addition to performs venous phlebotomy/blood draws-clinical functions of general medical assistants

    10 Works in conjunction with the healthcare team, participating in site improvement efforts and accepting coverage assignments. Maintains cooperative and professional relationships with providers, nurses and office and clinical staff. Understands integral role as part of a healthcare team and is an active participant regarding patient workflow and barriers to care and safety concerns

    11 Monitor inventory of front desk supplies (paper, appointment cards, etc.) and communicate to supervisor or manager when to reorder/restock

    12 Financial functions in accordance with Financial polices including, but not limited to:

    Insurance eligibility verification at every visit, Collect Co-pays, Deductibles, Self-Pay fees according to self-pay rates when applicable, Determine eligibility for Uninsured patients for other financial programs and assist with application completion, Performs Cashiering tasks as assigned

    13 Telephone functions in accordance with telephone polices including, but not limited to:

    a) Answer phones timely in a pleasant and professional manner including identifying the facility’s name and registrar’s first name.

    b) Identify the nature of the call and act appropriately.

    c) Take messages as necessary.

    d) Directs caller to appropriate person or area.

    e) Perform outreach phone calls as directed by supervisor for FHC

    14 Demonstrates a sensitive and supportive attitude towards patients, families and/or significant others and Provides translation communication as needed to facilitate the patient and provider interaction.

    15 Reports problems or concerns such as patient complaints, process workflows/conflicts, need for further skill training and/or other work related matters to their supervisor

    16 Reinforces health teaching to patients/families; Helps with the setup of telemedicine visits with the patients and providers at the site

    17 Flexible with reassignment to other Family Health Center sites including School Based Health clinics as needed as a floater to the network

    Minimum Qualifications:
    To qualify you must have a High School Diploma and Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program, BLS certified.

    Required Licenses: Medical Assistant Certificate

    Preferred Qualifications:
    1-2 Years outpatient ambulatory care experience, spanish speaking

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $43,492.68 - $48,689.97 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
