    Position Summary:
    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Assistant Project Director (Hospital) - LI Campus Transformation.

    Reporting to the Senior Director, the Assistant Project Director - Hospital will oversee multiple and or large/complex projects from planning & design through construction, inspections, move-in and closeout. The Assistant Project Director will be expected to act as the primary point of authority and accountability for the project(s) assigned and may supervise the work of the Assistant Project Managers, Project Managers, and Senior Project Managers. This requires the ability to build, lead, and manage multiple project teams, to create project plans, define project scope and establish budgets, and to solicit and synthesize input from end-users, departmental leadership, facilities staff, consultants, executive leadership, authorities having jurisdiction and other key stakeholders.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Independent leadership of large, sensitive, and technically complex capital projects
    • Supporting the program leadership in directing resources, supervising contractors, consultants, and in-house project staff to ensure that projects are completed within approved schedule and budgets; meet quality standards set by drawings and specifications; and adhere to NYU Langone construction site safety policies and procedures
    • Providing support and direction to staff to ensure complete and coordinated design documents, accurate cost estimates, and ensuring high quality construction for projects assigned
    • Ensuring that planning, design, and construction activities for all projects are coordinated both within the campus transformation program, across the campuses, and across the mission capital portfolios
    • Assisting the program leadership in the development of planning studies and feasibility assessment for new and expanded programs and recruitments
    • Working with Project Executive to implement systems that measure project budget and schedule performance; identifying variances early and working with project team to develop and implement plans of correction; maintaining portfolio and project performance metrics for construction safety, schedule, and budget
    • Assisting in the development of standards, policies and procedures for the successful implementation and execution of projects, in consultation with departmental leadership
    • Ensuring that Project Managers maintain complete and accurate data in RED+F’s data systems
    • Create and edit monthly and ad hoc status reports and presentations for internal and external audiences
    • At the discretion of the Project Executive, the Assistant Project Director may be directly assigned the lead PM role for select large, sensitive and/or complex projects
    • Represent the Project Director and act in leadership capacity for the Program Unit in his/her absence, including exercising delegation of approval authority for certain actions as deemed appropriate by departmental leadership

    Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:

    • Demonstrated leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate, mentor and manage staff, the capacity to remain calm and make good decisions in stressful situations, and to inspire confidence and convey a positive and enabling attitude
    • The ability to lead, develop and manage multiple project teams in a collaborative, team environment
    • A broad-based professional level of knowledge of best practices and industry standards in the design, construction, operations, and maintenance of capital assets in complex healthcare environments
    • Familiarity with, and the ability to make recommendations for, appropriate procurement methods and project delivery models to suit the needs of a dynamic and fast-moving capital portfolio while appropriately mitigating risk
    • Ability to function effectively in ambiguous situations, and to navigate in an environment with multiple variables and rapidly changing parameters
    • Ability to take initiative and make well-informed decisions
    • Ability to respond swiftly to sensitive project-related issues and to recognize and proactively mitigate project risks, and to resolve conflicts swiftly, without compromising NYU Langone's strategic interests
    • Demonstrated capacity to build consensus with diverse groups of stakeholders, and to negotiate effectively with end-users and internal departments to develop and refine project scopes, and to ensure projects are being properly managed and completed on time and on budget
    • In conjunction with consultants and project management staff, provide daily quality and safety monitoring of construction throughout projects until final closeout
    • Ability to coordinate Program Unit resources, assign project work, and track its execution in compliance with applicable codes, regulations, safety standards, drawings and specifications, budgets and schedules
    • Commitment to working collaboratively, across internal departments and with external vendors, balancing demands to deliver projects in alignment with overall organizational objectives
    • Excellent communications and relationship-building skills, ability to present to diverse groups at all levels of the organization
    • The interpersonal skills to interface effectively with outside Contractors, Architects,
    • Engineers, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction, as well as hospital executives, managers, and staff
    • Knowledge of building and zoning codes, FGI, NIH, JCAHO, NFPA and OSHA as well as ADA regulations

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Masters degree in engineering or architecture required; urban design degree a plus
    • Professional registration (PE or RA) required
    • 15 years +/- of progressive experience in engineering, architecture, design and construction, facilities management, and/or institutional facility planning
    • Healthcare experience required
    • Specific experience with large civic work
    • Strong background in project management and financial management of major projects

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $138,098.48 - $215,672.72 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
