Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Patient Education Coordinator - Tisch Hospital.
In this role, the successful candidate The Patient Education Specialist applies extensive knowledge of patient education, health literacy, regulatory standards, and technology to develop and deliver best practice education resources for patients at all levels of the health system. This includes acute care, ambulatory, surgical services and population health. Job duties include developing and editing multimodal patient education materials and managing system-level programs.
This role also requires in-depth knowledge of Epic, MyWall and MyChart to ensure patient education is current, easily accessible, and intuitive to document. This role requires interaction and collaboration with numerous departments and levels of leadership, and participates in system-level workgroups and committees. Knowledge of health literacy, health equity, program management and outcomes evaluation is essential.
This position reports to the Director of Patient and Family Education.
Job Responsibilities:
* Participates and leads in the development, implementation and evaluation of patient and family education materials
* Identifies and develops education and resources that are age-appropriate, culturally sensitive and ethical to all patients, including any on line education materials
* Demonstrates respect for the values of professional nursing, the conceptual framework in which it is practiced and the values espoused by the NYULH Langone Health departments of nursing
* Establishes collaborative relationships with nursing and all other staff and leadership throughout the medical center
* Works collaboratively with clinical leadership, resources and experts to identify patient learning needs and provide learning opportunities and educational resources for patients
* Collaborates with MCIT in development, placement, access and use of patient education materials in enterprise EMR
* Directs health literacy in review of all handouts utilized by patients and family members
* Gives guidance to all patient and family education coordinators across enterprise
* Demonstrates proficiency in computer programs and working knowledge of hospital EMR
* Chairs Patient and Family Education Champion Committee
* Develops goals for department that are congruent with the organization and the nursing departments mission, philosophy and strategic direction
* Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and implementing education activities
* Role models NYULH Service Standards in actions and communications with all others. Functions as a respectful leader of the health care team
* Ensures that education programs are executed according to established processes, guidelines and standards of accrediting agencies
* Increases awareness among NYULH colleagues and staff on health literacy through the preparation and delivery of presentations to groups and conferences
* Maintains education and clinical competency by participation in continuing education, professional organizations and related activities
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Licensure: Current Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York
Education: Graduate of accredited RN program; BSN required, MSN preferred
Experience: Minimum 3 years of clinical experience or combination of staff nurse/leadership experience
Demonstrates knowledge in professional nursing and evidence based practice
Participation in pertinent professional organizations and professional specialty organizations.
Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS
Preferred Qualifications:
ANCC recognized certification in specialty clinical area
Advanced degree in Nursing or related field
Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, creativity, strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage priorities and workflow in an environment with constantly changing priorities
Experience in conducting training, needs assessments, and developing learning objectives and/or competencies
Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels, utilizing good judgment
Must possess strong computer skills, including a high level of proficiency in Epic, and Microsoft Office-Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $111,899.99 - $141,107.20 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
