    Position Summary:

    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Associate.

    In this role, The Hubbard lab (http://jhubbardlab.med.nyu.edu/) seeks an independent and self-motivated research associate (technician) to contribute to our investigations of how diet, aging and genetics impact stem cells. Focusing on signaling and cell biological processes that are conserved in humans, we pursue these interests leveraging the facile genetics, gene editing, live imaging, genomics and more that are available in the research organism C. elegans.

    This position is a special "pre-PhD" position under an exempt category allowing you to work as many hours as you wish. Under this position, you are expected to build a portfolio of research accomplishments in preparation for acquiring a higher degree in biomedical research or medicine.

    The position will require a minimum commitment of 2 years with a maximum duration of 3 years.

    Job Responsibilities:

    · Generate hypotheses, design and perform experiments to test them.

    · Execute multiple experiments simultaneously (over time, independently).

    · Record all experimental findings, analyze and interpret experimental findings.

    · Suggest and test modifications to protocols.

    · Prepare figures and diagrams for presentations and publications.

    · Communicate results and collaborate with other professionals in the lab.

    · Demonstrate a significant level of intellectual input into project design.

    · Present findings at lab meeting, responds to challenges, and participate in exchanges of ideas to advance the science.

    · Read and understand relevant scientific literature.

    · Contribute to the preparation of articles for submission for publication.

    · Participate in the editing and proofing of grant proposals, annual grant reports, and manuscripts for publication.

    · After a period working in the laboratory, the candidate will be expected to train graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in experimental design, technique and performance.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    To qualify you must have a bachelor's degree in biology or related science.

    Prior experience with C. elegans or experience with other genetically tractable organisms (e.g. Drosophila, yeast, zebrafish) is preferred.

    Other relevant experience (e.g., in genetics, molecular biology, microscopy) will be considered.

    In addition to outstanding attention to detail, the ideal candidate will have excellent skills in written/oral communication, bookkeeping and organization, and troubleshooting.

    The ideal candidate will be proactive, willing to learn, will exercise excellent judgement in seeking guidance, and will be able to work independently or as part of a team.

    Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $42,900.00 - $45,344.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
