POSITION SUMMARY:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Emergency Management Specialist - Per Diem.
In this role, the successful candidate is an experienced professional with a broad base of expertise who is responsible for operational support of the enterprise-wide NYULH Emergency Preparedness Program including the clinical, research, and education missions areas. Service will be part time (2-3 days per week) with a fixed schedule and home reporting location but also includes ability to surge up hours based on operational need.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Senior Emergency Manager will be responsible for providing administrative, operational, and tactical support for multiple Emergency Preparedness Program components including but not limited to:
HIGHLY INFECTIOUS DISEASE PROGRAM
- Inspect, maintain, and inventory Highly Infectious Disease Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across each NYU Langone Health hospital location
- Support transition of PPE to Supply Chain including equipment turnover along with make, model and quantity previously ordered
- Streamline storage of HID training and operational equipment
- Assemble and organize key items for HID trainings that involve PPE donning & doffing including inspecting quality of PPE items
- Provide relevant SME knowledge to enhance HID program execution for planning, training and exercise conduct
- Prepare & stage key HID equipment for exercises, as needed
MASS DECONTAMINATION PROGRAM
- Inspect, maintain, and inventory Mass Decontamination Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and decontamination equipment across each NYU Langone Health hospital location
- Streamline storage of Mass Decon training and operational equipment
- Provide SME knowledge to enhance Mass Decon program execution for planning, training and exercise conduct
- Assemble and organize key items for Mass Decon trainings that involve PPE donning & doffing including inspecting quality of PPE items
- Develop and maintain knowledge of key areas of the hospital related to Mass Decontamination Operations including donning & doffing locations, external showers, and transport path for decontaminated patients
- Liaise with departments associated with Mass Decon response to support as directed by program manager
- Prepare & stage key Mass Decon equipment for exercises, as needed
- Provide relevant HazMat SME knowledge to enhance Mass Decon program execution for planning, training and exercise conduct
MASS CASUALTY INCIDENT PROGRAM
- Inspect, maintain, and inventory MCI equipment across each NYU Langone Health hospital location
- Streamline storage of MCI training and operational equipment
- Provide SME knowledge to enhance MCI program execution for planning, training and exercise conduct
- Assemble and organize key items for MCI trainings
- Develop and maintain knowledge of key areas of the hospital related to MCI Operations
- Liaise with departments associated with MCI response to support as directed by program manager
- Prepare & stage key MCI equipment for exercises, as needed
- Provide relevant First Responder on-scene SME knowledge to enhance MCI program execution for planning, training and exercise conduct
PATIENT EVACUATION PROGRAM
- Lead hands-on Med Sled training for front line staff across hospital campuses
- Deliver unit-based patient evacuation focused prep-talks/trainings with front line staff
- Review and update patient evacuation plans and tactical job-action sheets for use during a unit or hospital wide evacuation
- Inspect and inventory patient evacuation equipment including adult/pediatric med sleds, stair chairs, and Reeves stretchers
- Liaise with departments and stakeholders associated with patient evacuation planning as directed by program manager
- Prepare & stage key patient evacuation equipment for training and exercises
ACTIVE SHOOTER PROGRAM
- Lead unit-based active shooter trainings/prep-talks for clinical and administrative staff throughout hospital campus in partnership with Security Department.
- Partner with Security to foster professional relationships with local and first-response and law enforcement agencies to support active shooter preparedness
- Develop and update active shooter training resources including PowerPoint presentations and staff hand-outs
- Track and present unit-based training data utilizing department sponsored emergency management software
ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS
- Lead interdisciplinary teams (consisting of managers and leadership from individual facilities as well as from across the NYULH Enterprise) to conceive and execute broad-based and integrated programs of emergency management planning, training and exercises
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To qualify you must have a - Bachelors degree in emergency management, a health related field such as healthcare administration, occupational health and safety, or another appropriate discipline or equivalent experience.
- Bachelors degree plus, a minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience in fields such as emergency or disaster management, public health, hospital administration, emergency services, and/or teaching.
- Substantive experience in emergency management operations, including response operations and emergency operations center management.
- Basic awareness of with The Joint Commission, CARF and other regulatory agency requirements as they relate to emergency management.
- Comprehensive understanding of the National Incident Management System and Incident Command System.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; strong written, verbal and organizational skills.
- Able to interact with personnel at various levels.
- Ability to work under tight and changing deadlines.
- Ability to understand and interpret data.
- Capability and willingness to work in a crisis environment.
- General technology proficiency
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in an appropriate discipline
Certified Emergency Manager
Prior experience in New York City working with or for New York City OEM, FDNY, NYPD, DOHMH, FEMA, the US Army Corps of Engineers, the US Coast Guard or other agencies on emergency management preparedness and/or operations initiatives.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $85.00 - $85.00 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
