    POSITION SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Payroll Tax Analyst. In this role, the successful candidate as the Senior Payroll Tax Analyst will understand the laws and regulations concerning payroll taxes, payroll administration, and have an overall knowledge of payroll deductions and payroll processing. The Tax analyst must keep accurate records of Federal, State and Local Tax.  They must work closely with our Tax Service provider to ensure all taxes are paid timely and accurately and to work with our treasury department to coordinate funds availability and payment.  They must stay updated on any new states or territories that the Medical Center does business in and ensure we get registered for both tax payments and Unemployment Insurance.  They will be assist with W2 and 1042 filings at year end by ensuring all adjustments are made and reports balance, and ensure timely submission of these files to our Tax Provider.  The Tax Analyst will prepare monthly metrics to be sent to Payroll Management and the Payroll team for review.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Exhibit sound knowledge of payroll practices, policy and procedures. Have overall knowledge of the laws and regulations concerning payroll taxes, payroll administration, payroll deductions and payroll processing.
    • Supervise tax analyst and tax associates in performing their assigned roles with respect to reconciliation and review of payroll tax filings and all other payroll tax functions as assigned.
    • Prepare, review and reconcile all payroll tax related forms for filing to Federal, State and local agencies where required as well as
    • Respond to notices from IRS and other state and local agencies in a timely manner 
    • Work closely with our tax service provider to ensure all taxes are paid timely and accurately and work with our treasury department to coordinate funds availability and payment.
    • Update our tax service provider on any new states or territories where NYU Health System conducts business and ensure we are registered for both tax payments and unemployment insurance.
    • Support year-end PeopleSoft and Ceridian W-2 and 1042 reconciliation, filing and distribution process;
    • Provide subject matter expertise in resolving assigned Salesforce cases in accordance to SLA.
    • Assist in system testing software upgrades for all tax updates
    • Assist in overpayment recovery activities
    • Assist management with payroll metrics reporting
    • Assist the balancing and verification of payroll cycles.
    • Recommend best practice solutions and/or enhancements to current processing routines.           
    • Assist in maintain a third-party taxation database for Foreign Nationals.
    • Manage the process for reporting tuition, relocation, interest and other items of imputed income.
    • Supervise tax team personnel including tax analyst and tax associates.
    • Monitor tax analyst and tax associate performance in analysis of controls within the department and review of reports for compliance with predetermined metrics

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree (required) and CPA or CPP certification preferred. The individual should have a minimum of five years experience in payroll administration, including knowledge of Foreign National Tax, W2 reporting, as well as State, Federal, and Local regulations, in a multi-state environment. Advanced proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft applications is required. Experience with PeopleSoft or other Payroll System reporting is required. Experience with UKG (Kronos) or other timekeeping systems preferred.   Must have strong written and verbal skills and excellent research skills. Experience with Windstar for Foreign National Tax reporting and Equifax ACA reporting is preferred.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The Payroll Tax Analyst should exhibit sound knowledge of Payroll Practices, Policy and Procedures and exhibit exceptionally strong research skills. The tax analyst must have strong written and verbal skills.  They will be responsible to ensure all Medical Center taxes are paid timely and accurately.  This will include taxes for Federal, State and Local withholding as well as State Unemployment.  This position will also be responsible for understanding taxation for Foreign Nationals and maintaining a third party taxation database for Foreign Nationals.  The tax analyst will ensure all tax returns are filed.  The individual should be able to assist in 1095C reporting should HR require additional help. PeopleSoft or other Payroll System reporting is a must.  Windstar reporting for Foreign National Tax reporting and Equifax ACA reporting is a plus.
