    POSITION SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Credentials Specialist-MSS. Reporting to the Credentials Manager

    In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing physician/allied health liability insurance information for initial appointment, reappointment, and ongoing compliance with regulations as stated by NYU Langone Health. Communicates and responds to internal and external queries for liability insurance information per institutional requirements.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Processes and Reviews Statement of Insurance documentation from the Medical Staff Services Department as part of the initial and reappointment process for new physicians and allied health professional
    • Independently identifies and flags adverse information from materials for the purpose of conducting special follow-up investigations in preparation for Credentials Committee and continuing compliance needs. Uses discretion to escalate identified flags to management.
    • Conducts primary source verification and validation of liability insurance and malpractice claims history. Assesses completeness of information.
    • Provides guidance to incoming medical staff concerning insurance requirements providing information detailing the types of coverage available as well as provides information on acceptable insurance carriers.
    • Identifies those physicians who do not meet the Medical Centers professional liability insurance requirements as required by the Board of Trustees and notifies Credentials Manager. Requests that the physician provides updated certificates to maintain compliance with the Medical Center's malpractice insurance requirements..
    • Employs public relations skills and uses discretion in a wide variety of email, phone and in person contacts with internal and external sources for purposes of soliciting information and communicating information essential to the credentialing process and credentials investigations.
    • Reviews, processes and responds to requests for insurance information and malpractice history from outside facilities as well as current and previous practitioners.
    • Works with insurance carrier/broker to request certificates of insurance when requested by third party.
    • Identifies and verifies those physicians who are on staff at NYU Langone Health that require participation in the New York State Section 18 excess insurance.
    • Prepares and issues letters detailing insurance coverage and claims history for House Staff/Employed Physicians/Allied Health Practitioners.
    • Enters data from provider materials into Cactus database, focusing on accuracy and interpreting or adapting data to conform to defined data field uses.
    • Independently maintains tickler system for follow-up of unanswered correspondence. Investigates and resolves matters of significance on behalf of the department and escalates to management as appropriate.
    • Maintains a high degree of discretion and trustworthiness in the handling of confidential information associated with the credentialing process.
    • Performs other duties and assists with special projects as assigned.

    ADDITIONAL POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: none

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify you must have a High school diploma or the equivalent. Minimum of three years experience in medical staff credentialing required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer skills, including word processing and data base maintenance.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Medical staff credentialing certification from NAMSS (National Association of Medical Staff Services) preferred. Self-motivated with the ability to complete projects independently within established time-frames. Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines. Ability to cope with interruptions, varying personalities, rush projects, and demanding medical staff. Must be well organized and able to prioritize responsibilities. Must have independent judgment and interpersonal relationship skills in working with medical staff leaders and other Departments in the NYU Health System.
