    Position Summary:
    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant - Obs/Gyn-IVF.

    In this role, the successful candidate, under supervision of the Program Manager for Cryopreservation or designee, will perform administrative and support tasks requiring knowledge and understanding of embryology processes. As part of a team, responsible for handling administrative and technical functions related to cryopreserved specimens and the Fertility Center tissue bank. This includes specimen transports in and out of the Fertility Center as well as disposition of specimens. The position will involve manual processes related to packing, shipping and handling of cryopreserved human oocytes, embryos and sperm

    Job Responsibilities:

    Directly responsible for; including, but not limited to, the tasks listed below.

    1.       1.         1. Reviews and approves patient consent forms for final disposition of cryopreserved specimens. Organizes specimens and paperwork accordingly while awaiting final disposition.
        2. Directly responds to patient storage inquiries by phone, email, and patient portal regarding their cryopreserved specimens. Requires understanding of embryology clinical notations related to specimen quality, pre-implantation genetic testing results, and ability to accurately convey specimen information to patients in a sensitive and compassionate manner.
        3. Provides support to other Fertility Center departments and Fertility Center business partners regarding cryopreserved specimen information.
        4. Works closely with Program Manager for Cryopreservation on organization of tissue bank. Including, but not limited to, conducting clinic inventory, relocating specimens, set up of new storage tanks, and retirement/disposal of old storage tanks.
        5. Updates paper and electronic medical records before and after handling specimens in a timely manner. Requires keen attention to detail to ensure accurate information is available to clinical teams through EMR. 
        6. Handling, coordinating and tracking shipments of cryopreserved tissue (eggs, embryos, sperm) into and out of the NYULFC per SOPs -
          * Direct interaction with patients to clarify their intent, obtain applicable consents and explain details
          * Direct interaction with patients and outside facilities to obtain relevant lab records
          * Contacts and works with other facilities and couriers to schedule shipments
          * Monitoring of shipments to ensure receipt / delivery when expected
          * May directly access and/or handle specimens as a spotter/ confirmer for transport 
          * Accurate and timely updating of records in EMR and scheduling log
          * Provides Manger with support related to incoming calls as a first line of information on transports
          * Communicates clearly and consistently on follow ups and directives from Manager
          * Strict adherence to current policies and procedures as documented
        7. Performs other duties as assigned in times of high volume, inspections or as identified by leadership.
    

    May be assigned to other lab assistant tasks after appropriate training as needed

    Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
    Quality Control- 1. Report malfunctions to senior personnel promptly.
    2. Follow departmental procedures and instructions.
    3. Adhere to universal precautions for blood-borne pathogens and in accordance with procedures developed by the Program management.
    4. Verify status of patient consent compliance related to Cryo-inventory procedures.

    Judgment/Decision Making
    1. Seek information and ask for assistance from senior personnel when necessary regarding difficult or questionable situations.
    2. Report untoward result or incident to senior personnel and prepare documentation as requested.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    To qualify you must have a High School Diploma

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Bachelors Degree in a related field with 1-2 years of related experience in a laboratory administrative position

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $33,141.95 - $53,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
