    POSITION SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Horticultural Therapist. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for implementing comprehensive, medically prescribed horticultural therapy treatment programs to assigned patients in a supervised program. Responsible for planning and implementing therapeutic horticulture groups as needed. In addition, the HT assists in the maintenance of plants and facilities.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Reviews patients' information and schedules into Horticultural Therapy program. Understands medical data and pertinence to horticultural therapy treatment. Seeks clarification as needed.
    • Implements Horticultural Therapy program according to current professional and health system standards while incorporating, seasonal changes and special horticultural projects. Selects horticulture activities to meet patients goals. Adapts activity to achieve patient goals. Instructs patients in proper horticulture techniques. Monitors volunteers working in patient program. Accurately records all daily attendance. Completes patient documentation according to procedures.
    • Assists in maintaining the horticulture facilities, gardens, supplies and equipment. Performs plant maintenance duties when necessary (grooming, fertilizing, watering, pest control, planting) and oversees volunteers. Clean treatment area, supplies and equipment as necessary. Notify supervisor when supplies are low. Assists in operating special activities such as plant display, sales and shows.
    • Provides students on-going supervision and guidance in implementation of treatment program. Teaches and supervises students to enhance their knowledge and skills. Encourages positive learning experiences for any students assigned to horticultural therapy programs.
    • Implements horticultural vocational training program for trainees, as needed. Assists in implementing training curriculum. Adapts activities to meet individual trainees needs. Assists in supervision and instruction in proper horticulture techniques. Reviews progress and reports to supervisors.
    • Implements community and hospital-based special horticulture programs as required. Be aware of and special precautions and procedures for these programs.
    • Demonstrates continued proficiency in skills required to treat assigned patient population.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify you must have a Bachelor's Degree and experience commensurate with eligibility for National Registration/Certification in the profession. Greenhouse and garden experience required. Good communication and interpersonal skills.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Clinical experience as a Horticultural Therapist with physically disabled individuals.
