POSITION SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Public Relations Specialist. In this role, the successful candidate contributes to and supports the development and implementation of a strategic public relations program designed to enhance and protect the reputation of the brand and which supports and highlights the Medical Centers mission and vision to be a world-class, patient-centered, integrated academic medical center. The incumbent assists the Senior Director across the full range of communications activities relating to the business of the Medical Center (e.g., NYU Grossman School of Medicine, Nursing, philanthropy, event support, appointments, and issues/crisis management) including researching issues, monitoring media, drafting press releases and media statements. As assigned, the incumbent will also develop media outreach strategies and media pitches, help to fulfill incoming media requests for experts, will interact with NYU Langone Health faculty and leadership and will serve as key contact for select media outlets. Time management, critical thinking skills, the ability to work well in a team setting, initiative and flexibility are all important in this role. This person needs to have enthusiasm and the drive to succeed as well as a passion for health care and an academic medical center setting. The ability to work quickly, efficiently and have excellent writing, computer and organizational skills are a must.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify you must have a Bachelor's Degree in journalism, public relations or communications. Minimum of 3-5 years of agency, non-profit or corporate public relations experience . Proven track record of success in public relations. Demonstrated knowledge of the local and national public relations landscape required; Healthcare experience a plus. Ability to identify news worthiness of issues and gauge appropriateness of topics for coverage in specific media outlets. Has existing relationships with key local and national healthcare/consumer reporters. Ability to expand and build relationships with reporters strategically important to issues of interest to academic medical centers . Knowledge of various public relations tools and techniques. Experience in handling crisis communications and issues management. Excellent writing and editing skills a must. Creative self-starter; proactive; able to juggle multiple projects and follow through to completion; a problem-solver, deadline oriented . Strong oral and interpersonal communications skills. Ability to develop effective messages aligned with the goals of the organization. Ability to exercise excellent judgment. Professional presence and demeanor.
